Covert Ford provided the best new car buying experience that we have ever enjoyed. During our search for the perfect King Ranch Expedition, we contacted five dealerships. They were not even close. There was no high pressure runaround at Covert and our sales person, Philip Robinson, provided quick and painless trading information. Our bottom line price was better by several thousand dollars than the price we were quoted from other dealers. The after market items were added and the car was ready a full day before promised. The entire trade took around an hour. We were introduced to service and tech personnel. Everyone was friendly and helpful and the car is just what we wanted. No hassle. This was a car buying experience out of the 50's or 60's. It doesn't get better than Covert.
Salesperson lied. We went to Covert Ford on Duval looking for a 2012 Ford Fusion. Frank Ayala helped us the first time we were there (and made us wait quite awhile as he was helping 2-3 other customers at the same time). We went to Riatta Ford in Manor because it was closer and thought we'd just see about when the 2013 Fusion Hybrid would be available. Riatta said it had just become open to order, with delivery in the fall. We contacted Frank again to see about ordering with them (he claimed he could beat Riatta's price). When we got there he went to see Jason Whited, the order specialist. They both came back and told us that ordering was not yet available on the 2013 Fusion Hybrid and that it would not be open for months. The cars would also not be ready until December or later for delivery. We went back to Riatta and have already placed an order for our 2013 Fusion Hybrid with an estimated delivery date of Sept/Oct. We won't be using Covert Ford in the future and don't recommend Jason or Frank to anyone looking for a car there.
BUYER BEWARE!!!. Be very careful. Public records shows numerous lawsuits against Covert for Deceptive Trade Practices, including cause #GN4-00250 in the 126th Judicial District Austin TX where the Plaintiff alleges Covert Ford sold him a truck as new, but discovered later it had been previously wrecked and repaired. Covert's answer was not to deny they did that, but rather there should be no claim because they refunded his money. "This tender by Covert and acceptance by plaintiff constitutes an accord and satisfaction." Just before going to trial by jury, the case settled out of court for an undisclosed sum in 2008. They treated me abysmally but this says it better.
Don't buy a vehicle here - you'll be sorry !!!. Last week the O/D light came on in my Ford Explorer. I drove it right home and got the manual out to see what the problem was. "Transmission problem" was what the manual indicated, as well as several websites I reviewed. I didn't worry at first, since I figured this would be covered under warranty. My Explorer is just under 5 years old and just under 60K miles. Surely there would at least be a 60K power train warranty. No one would buy a vehicle if they knew the transmission would only last 59K miles. Well, the Covert Ford told me a new tranmission was needed (5th and 2nd gears were worn down), that it would cost $3500, and that it is not covered by warranty. And to add insult to injury he charged me $90 to tell me the transmission was bad (something I obviously knew) - isn't this similar to stealing? Obviously I was quite irritated. I asked what caused this. None of the possibilities applied since I took good care of the vehicle and had it serviced according to the maintenance manual. In fact, the dealer (Covert Ford in Austin) did the 30K checkup. I spent $1K on that (and probably got ripped off). I took it to a transmission specialist and had it fixed for under $2500. He informed me that he sees a lot of issus like this with Explorers - probably a poor design and poor quality. Also, judging by various websites there are indeed lots of complains like this. I talked with Kenny Covert (probably the worst customer service skills I've ever dealt with) and was very patient and professional in my request to see if he could do anything. He got back to me right away that he was interested in helping - but then he would never get back to me. I kept sending emails, but no response. He was only interested in making a buck on the next poor quality vehicle that he was going to sell. Not interested in assisting previous customers.
