Good authentic vietnemese with great prices. I an from Hawaii and vietnemese food is abundant there. When I moved to texas it was really hard to find great vietnemese food. When i found this place my mouth and belly were so happy!! The pho is great and you can get a bowl for $5.75 The food is great too. Everything that I have tried here is great. They also have a huge t.v. and they play modern lounge music at night. I wouldn't go here for the lunch buffet but I would order off the menu for lunch. The waiters are friendly, it is clean and they are fast with coming out with your food. This is a great place! It is a very casual place with great food and great portions.

Good, cheap, fairly authentic. I've lived in San Jose and worked in Milpitas, CA where good Vietnamese food is easy to come by...in Austin not so much. 888 was good - I tried the vermicelli and another time the curry dish (ok Indian but not too many places here for that either!).

Liked the food and the prices. Since I now work close by I will be making this part of the regular lunch rotation.

Wait staff was very friendly too.

Decent food with good pho, cheap, good for large gatherings.. Food: The Pho is pretty good. Big and filling. Cheap as well. Its not outstanding but its still good.

The other food they have to offer is average. I tried the Red Snapper and it was pretty tasty. The spring rolls are average, the fried rolls are average as well. The Lemon Pepper Chicken noodle bowl tastes like Pine Sol. lol. From what I heard from my other friends, the food is average to above average. Offers a large menu which also includes some Thai dishes. The vermicelli bowls are okay. Some has said it was pretty bad. But there were some dishes my friends enjoyed. Mainly some rice dishes, and the pho. Comparing to the other pho places thats very close by, it seems to be better than the other 2 (Hy Kai and Pho Oanh). I think it was Hy Kai that may be just as good. I heard a better place for VIetnamese was Pho Van.

Price: It is cheap though and offer pretty good portions

Students, Vietnamese expatriates and neighborhood office workers dine at this casual strip mall buffet and cafe featuring Asian cuisines.. In Short
Red vinyl booths line the walls, with additional table seating filling the rest of the dining area. The bar serving beer and wine and a buffet line occupy one corner of the restaurant, while a large-screen TV screen mounted on the far wall showcases Asian news and entertainment programming. The extensive menu is primarily focused on Vietnamese specialties such as vermicelli, stir fry noodles and beef noodle soup.

Authentic Vietnamese but poor decor or ambience. Cheap fast lunch place; the beef soup stock for the pho is relatively aromatic and authentic (for this type of joint). However the decor is bizarre, crazy, and when I was there the music switched from 80's rock to Mozart piano tunes . It is depressing to eat there because of the poor ambience, so there is absolutely no need to linger. Portions are huge. Service very friendly.

2008 Austin Chronicle's Best Asian Restaurant! Crossing My Fingers!. I still don't understand how this restaurant is overlooked by the readers of the Austin Chronicle... This place deserves recognition!!! The food is delicious and the customer service is top notch! I recommend the sesame tofu, seafood puffs, and green curry-vegetable. It is never crowded which rocks since you do not have to wait to be seated. The lunch buffet is also worth a trip to the south side of town!

What the pho's up with this place??. Before anyone discounts this place based on my shabby two stars, let me make it clear that this review is only about the Pho, that wonderful Viet comfort food dish that's easy to do, but hard to do well.

I am a HUGE pho fan, and after reading such good reviews about 888, I was quite looking forward to finding a good place to get a big bowl of deliciousness. But sadly, this was not the case. It wasn't necessarily BAD, but there was just nothing GOOD about it either. The broth was bland and boring, even after adding my mint leaves and things. The overall taste was virtually inexistant. And I don't know about these other reviewers, but my service was lacking. Two different waiters for my table and the table next to mine both brought out our respective dishes and never brought out silverware for us. Lame!

Anyway, if you've got a craving for some pho like I always do, do yourself a favor and pass up 888, it ain't gonna cut it.

Surprisingly good and inexpensive! Exceptional service!. Great place to eat. I went with some co-workers for lunch to try it out and was surprised how good it was. The seating area and restrooms are very clean. The service was exceptional and friendly. The meal was huge and the best part was the bill was NOT.

Great Lunch Spot!. Four of us went to the South Austin location of 888 and sat down at a comfortable booth. We were greeted by a friendly host and waitress who let us know about the specials and repeated them to two guys who didn't hear them the first time. Service was friendly and timely. Three of us ate roasted duck in a tangerine and lychee sauce with Hot and Sour soup and seaweed salad beforehand (The seaweed salad was actually a green salad with sesame dressing and a little seaweed.) **we paid between 7 and 8 dollars each for all this!!**. Highly recommended for lunch.

All the other tables looked fine, but our booth's table was about 6" too short. Not a big deal. Also one of our party said the bathroom was clean and well kept...

A treat for the taste buds. Oh man, you've gotta try this place. Reasonably priced and some of the best Asian dishes around. My wife (a real cook) is Thai and she says it's the best Vietnamese/Thai style food she's ever had anywhere.

That said, don't waste your time with the Pho or the fried rice which isn't anything special. Get one of the specialty dishes and be prepared for the best food you ever tasted. The lunch buffet is an especially good value and the food quality at the buffet line is just as excellent as the dishes they make just for you.
