Austin >Madam Mam's Noodle & More
Lousy Service from the owner herself!!!.
Service was lousy!
First I love their food and have referred many friends there. Good food needs to be shared...what can I say!
But my last visit there has left me feeling incensed! I believe the old lady is the owner's wife. I asked her for a booth and said I could wait...I had a toddler and a booth would work better for us. Not to mention I was still waiting for my friend to join us. She rudely tells me that there are no both available and gave me a stare...i kindly reply i could wait. A few moments went by and another lady came out to help seat the busy lunch crowd...assuming her sister...she seemed nicer. As she was going down the waiting list, I came to her to mention that I am on that list but waiting for a booth and at that moment, the mean Mam gets off the phone and rudely tells me and the other lady that she already told me there was no booth available. I merely wanted the new person to know that I was here waiting for the booth..the rude lady then starting spouting something in her native tongue to the other lady and I KNOW she was talking about me!!! How rude, I jsut wanted to walk out, but I was meeting a freind there. so when we finally sat, the mean lady was the one to wipe the table and there were crumbs from the previous meal on my booth and I pointed to her and she never came back to wipe it off or send anyone over to do it!!! How rude!!!! I will never come back to eat there again and will look for another great thai food place!!! How sad. Why be so sour when you have all that money from your business old lady! Relax and learn some customer service skills! Cheers!
my break up with Madam Mams.
Anyone who knows me at all knows my passionate love affair with Madam Mams that started when it first switched management in 2001/2002 and BECAME Madam Mams. Since then I?ve turned many a friend to loyal impassioned patrons. I?ve written it praises in between 2001 and 2005 in my previous online journal to the point of one of my out of country friend insisted I take her to this Mams. There was a semester in college where I would go weekly with my then boyfriend, with Michael, with my brother and with Jon. Up to 4 times a week. Even after I graduated and moved , I?ve managed to average 1/2x a week.
I?m that fricking loyal. I?ve loved the pad thai at first and then alternated between the different curries and finally stayed true with the F5 flat noodle. Well, I went with Naz (whom I?ve introduced to Mams) for our 2nd trip that week and we had our usuals. Midway through our meals, noticed that we had lipstick on our glasses and disturbed, we complained.
Mams is not known for her service. But we expected a little bit of an acknowledgement. 1st, they claimed that the glasses were in fact, clean because they pulled it out of the dishwasher; it must be stained. We countered that that does not make it clean. They insisted that they cannot be held accountable for ?dirty? glassware. When we asked for a small discount, (a measly 10% would have us believing that they at least care for their patrons). Said we were being unreasonable if we expected a discount for something wrong with our drinks. That their policy is to only discount if something unsanitary were to happen with the food.
Asked, how do we know our plates are clean? They shrugged. I told the manager how much I love their food and how often I come and I've been coming longer than he had been managing. He agreed. I said the way he is dismissing us makes me not want to come back anymore.
To which, he said ?That is fine. We have customers.? That marked the end of our 6-7yr relationship.
Good food, terrible terrible service. The food is good, but the service terrible. They take forever to get your order, and food comes out very late. What's worse, some dishes can come out 20 minutes or more after others in your party have already started eating. I've seen r o a c h e s on the wall once, so you know there are a lot more out there. I've been to this place probably over 50 times, so the food is good (and sadly, I'll go again), but they really really need to work on the service, espcially since you KNOW they are making real good money since it's always packed.
Yum!. Best Thai food in Austin. Try the P15 curry soup on a cold day. Big enough to feed a whole family!! Pad See Ew and Noodle Lord are also some of my family's favorites.
Not a place for vegetarians. Madam Mam's has very limited vegetarian choices. It is best to avoid this place if you do not want fish sauce or meat/chicken broth in your food. The food we ordered was average. Sevings were small. Athough the restaurant was busy still there was no wait. Service was mixed. The person who took our order was very professional but the servers were not. The person who brought food literally slammed the dishes on our table. We requested for extra plates and they never came. I had to go personally to the front desk to get them. Our request for extra paper napkins was met by rolling of eyes. To her credit the owner ( I believe) was visiting every table to enquire about the food. I do not think we will go there again.
very good food, very good price. Waitstaff was very friendly to my wife, myself and our 1 year old. The extensive menu contained lots of hot items. We had spring wrap appetizers, a teriyaki salmon with rice dish, and a ground pork with rice dish. Very good food, and plenty of it. The bright lighting and wobbly table hurt the atmosphere a bit.
YES the good reviews are spot on!!!.
Visited the South location...this place is delicious! Tom Ka was by far the best we have ever had, loaded with chicken & mushrooms...Pad Thai didn't have all the greenery other restaurants usually add (no problem) but the flavor was rich & authentic...The panang beef was an in cre di ble stew of a curry!!!!! (gaz, scuze me) Yum, no doubt the place was jam packed at lunch. Everything was fresh and hot! They have a great ground nut & chile? mix you can add to your food that is blaster!
I was sent on recommendation and still read all the reviews, this is what I have to say:
If you can't afford a tip you can't afford to be waited on! Regardless of service... it is cheap & tacky to tip less than 10%, complain to the manager if it's soooo bad,
If you sit at a restaurant for more than 20 minutes for anything without getting off your a** ...then ~ you are spoiled & stupid : ) Make yourself useful or leave! I didn't see a Zagat or Michelin survey on the door of this place.
If you can't afford a $7 meal and you still want to complain, call your mommy, get a job or eat taco bell.
GREAT SPICY FOOD. Another restaraunt that I frequent. The location I go to is by Central Market. It's cute, it's declicious. It's so good it makes me sweat. Hot, hot, hot.
dirty dirty dirty. I have been to madam mam's twice. I do have to agree with everyone about the taste of food which is good but both experiences that I have had, uh, not so good. They have no problems seating you at all, well of course not, they want your money. But be prepared to sit for about 20 minutes before someone takes your order and about 20 to 30 minutes for your food. My mother and I went there today for lunch, we sat around for 30 minutes and still no one had taken our order...it's what happened next that prompted us and several others to leave immediately. A RODENT ran across the dining room and headed towards the kitchen. I looked towards the back of the house to see the employees reactions which actually surprised me. Yes, they looked shocked but they were also cracking up!!! They didnt seem to take the matter seriously at all. I will definately have to say, that is the last time I will ever go into that place.
It's been amazing every time. Wow, I'm kind of surprised at all these comments about waiters chasing you down for tips and the crazy owner. Maybe I've just been really lucky I don't know. I've eaten at both locations dozens of times and have had a good experience. I always get the Beef Pad Thai, it's so good and I find myself craving it if I haven't had it in awhile. Lunch time at the drag location can get VERY crowded, but it's delicious, cheap food on a college campus, what do you expect? I've never heard of anyone getting harrassed by the waitstaff, that sounds absurd... they've always been very prompt and friendly to me whether I'm eating alone or with friends. Like I said before though, maybe I've just gone on good days and been lucky. Anyways, I'm going there today, I LOVE IT!
