More on the Louisiana end of the soul food spectrum, this Oak Hill joint does cajun right: Order a heaping helping of atchafalaya catfish, or spicy, warm-you-up-inside jambalaya with chicken and andoullie sausage.
Disappointed. I am a native New Orleanian and was very displeased with the meal my friend and I had today. Although the gumbo and catfish poboy tasted O.K., the gumbo was all rice and the poboy was tiny! I thought it was a rip off! Not like the gracious helpings of food that you get in New Orleans at all. The service was also very slow for the little bit of food we had. I have no desire to return.
Great food with a laid-back setting. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for yummy food and drinks with a casual atmosphere. When we pulled up to the restaurant and realized that it was in a strip mall, I was a bit turned off. But, we went in anyways and were seated promptly. Happy hour starts at 4:00 and includes margaritas for $3 and mojitos for $3.25. The mojitos were perfect and refreshing. For dinner, I ordered the Shrimp Pasta Rockefeller and my husband ordered the Crawfish Delight. Both were amazing! It seriously reminded me of the food in New Orleans. And, anyone who's been to New Orleans knows that the food there is the best in the country; among San Francisco. The prices are totally reasonable and our waiter was very attentive. I can't wait to go back!
Great neighborhood restaurant. My wife and I have been going here somewhat regularly since we moved to the neighborhood, and we keep coming back for more. I don't know enough about cajun cuisine to tell how traditional it is, but I can say for sure that it's darn tasty. We're both particularly fond of the muffaletta, but usually get something different every time, and come away satisfied each time. They recently added breakfast, you can even get some decent migas. For being in a strip mall, the "patio" is a nice touch. Also, they've got lots of great discount specials and happy hour deals to check out.
Take a romp through the dishes of Southern Louisiana, Texas and the Gulf Coast..
In Short
Stroll in and be seated immediately--feel like one of the family. At a maximum capacity of 75 seats, the layout is intimate and the atmosphere remains low-key, with adult contemporary music wafting in the background. The owners grew up outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and their Cajun accents speak the loudest on the menu. Dinner dishes start with salad and feature voodoo blackened chicken and chicken tejana--chicken breast stuffed with seedless jalapenos and cheddar-jack cheese.
Good food, understaffed. I live on William Cannon, so I have eaten here several times. The food varies from good to very good. Although, if you walk in and it seems very busy, try again some other time. You won't be able to get out of there in anything less than 1 1/2 hrs. The waitstaff/bartenders are nice and accomadating, but are worked ragged due to the constant short staffing of the restaurant. Also, never order anything to go, the food is not the same.
Awesome casual spot with great food. We found this place by meeting a friend there who recomended it and were very surprised. I was a bit skeptical when we pulled into a strip center but went in with an open mind. The menu has an interesting assortment of cajun style food at a fair price as well. We tried the crawfish eggrolls for an appetizer and those which of course were really tasty. The proportions were rather large as well so bring an appetite. If your lookin for a good meal and very casual atmosphere then heres your place.
what a surprise. I live 1 mile away and drove past the place twice a day for a year..never went in. Curb appeal is lacking I guess.. I had dinner there the other week (6 of us) and I was impressed.. This place is cool. Good food and there was a band playing the background. We were so impressed we went back the next day for breakfast. It was good too.. My new favorite place to eat. Forget IHOP on Saturday morning go here..
Great food and drinks!. This is a great place for a laid-back happy hour with friends. They have great mojitos, watermelon martinis and margaritas for cheap! The food is great and great service. When the weather is nice, there is a patio area.
Hidden Gem.
I have eaten at this neighborhood restaurant on several occassions always trying something different. I have yet to be disappointed. Every dish has been excellent. The menu is full of cajun and creole items and dishes with homemade sauces. You won't find your standard items on the menu that you can find at most other bland restaurant.
The lunch menu is great both in price and choice for the dish of the day.
I will keep returning to this hidden gem.
