Peony - I Love You Long Time!.
Peony Asian Cuisine serves some of the best food in Austin, hands down. No pretensions, just flavor
After googling "good Chinese delivery" over and over again for months only to have mediocre and sometimes just strange food that even my bulldog wasn't interested in, we finally discovered Peony.
So now, once a week we have a little piece of heaven delivered to our front door. All of the reviews will tell you that the hot and sour soup and even the egg drop soup will be the best thing that you'll ever put in your mouth. But let's not forget to mention the pot stickers that are cooked to perfection, or the Mongolian beef that is absolutely inimitable, and my new favorite, the House Spicy Shrimp that literally made my mouth water just typing the mere words.
Now, there have been many palatable moments that I have shared with Peony and through my journey I only have one mistake. That I had yet to actually dine in this place I call Heaven until last weekend.
And let's just say. Chu, you had me at hello. Chu is not only the owner, but now my best friend. He sat down to chat with us as we asked if they minded making us a quick roll at the bar while we waited on our to go food since they were closing in 15 minutes. They responded with, "no problem. Have a seat and enjoy your night."
Now, Chu doesn't normally drink but an hour later all of us were about four complimentary sake bombs deep into a stupendous longhorn roll , and quite entertaining conversation.
The staff and owners are friendly and attentive to say the least. The moderate prices and warm atmosphere encourage sake bombs, good company, great sushi and Chinese food that will leave you with a smile on your face.
Favorite place for asian food. This is the restaurant I always go to for special occasions, like new years. It's just pleasant dining and great food. For the schmuck who says they don't speak English well enough... maybe you should stick to 5 Guys Burger and Fries.
Outstanding, Fresh Pan-Asian Fare With Attentive Service -- Perfect For Families.
We took our two young children here recently almost on a lark, and our experience could not have been better. We explored both the traditional Chinese fare (potstickers, moo shu veggies, veggie dish and broccoli and beef) together with some Japanese items (edamame and sushi). The food was delivered quickly and beautifully prepared -- fresh, clean tastes and quality vegetables and meat (lean, not fatty, and cooked without a lot of oil, which we appreciated). The sushi was similarly exceptional -- very fresh and not a hint of fishiness. The plating was artistic as well -- a nice touch. The edamame were crisp and warm. The chef prepared our food without MSG as requested. Moreover, the service was outstanding -- the waitresses were attentive and fast, and they were super with the kids, showing them the fish tank and helping them roll their own moo shu delights. Plenty of perfectly-cooked rice as well, and they offer brown rice as an option (very unusual, and a welcome addition!).
Finally, the restaurant was an excellent value. It was terrific food at a reasonable price, and we had plenty left over to enjoy as left-overs. It's a lovely place to take your family for a relaxed, healthful dinner. (As a bonus, you can walk across the street afterwards and complete food shopping at Randall's, so it makes for a convenient trip.)
PEONY GOT SUED. Because THEY DIDN'T PAY THEIR WORKERS. It may be good service and food, but one literally never knows what goes on "behind the kitchen doors." So they charge their own customers but then don't pay their workers... no dignity in that!
Delicious. We went to Peony for the 2nd time the other night and it was such a delicious meal. I remembered it being good, but this time it was truly outstanding. It's hard to find good Chinese food in Austin and now we know that we have a safe bet anytime we have a craving. Our waiter was great and very attentive and the food was cooked perfectly. I had plenty left over for lunch the next day and it was just as tasty.
Impressed.
I may be a biased reviewer but Peony will always be special to me as I enjoyed the best Christmas dinner there with my partner. The food is incredibly fresh with a lovely, varied menu. Service, delightful...esepecially if you happen to be waited on by Danny. Great service is a commodity and Danny is one of the most attentive and personable wait staff an establishment is fortunate to have...and only enhances your dining experience.
Nice atmosphere.
Honestly, my favorite restaurant, period!. Excellent, caring service. I feel like family when I am here. And if you become a regular customer - you will experience a whole new level of service that is unseen in any restaurant for the most part. The food itself is very good - there is no better hot and sour soup ANYWHERE in the U.S. that I have had - and I have had a lot of hot and sour soup. They are very accommodating to any substitutions or alterations to your specific order. If you want everything you go to a Chinese restaurant for, and then some - without all the pretentiousness - there is no better place.
Don't come here. It's not worth it. Trust me.. Noisy. Bad smell. Bad Service. Bad food. Sushi is probably the worst in Austin. Little to No English spoken.
Delicious. Golden Gate Shrimp is a must try. I fell in love with this appetizer. Delicious shrimp is covered in sweet and light creamy tempting sauce. The main orders are also very good. Staff is very friendly and the service is fast.
Peony Beats PF Changs.
Peony (Northland Dr/ Mopac) is Austin's best kept secret. It's more Asian Fusion than just strictly Chinese. It's hidden away kind of..I'm sure local businesses and neighboring residents are aware of it, but other than that, you might not pass by it.
The sushi was fantastic and the menu is extensive. The menu alone surpasses PF Chang's.The quality is as high..but the service here is impeccable and friendly. PF Chang's has become a bit too trendy that it has lost a bit of its customer service and increased its attitude.
I recommend you try this place at least once! I had the scallops in a spicy basil sauce and it was amazing!
