In Short – Sisters Anni Zovek and Piroska Althauser brought Hungarian food to the Austin area. Their grandmother cooked in a monastery in the Austro-Hungarian empire circa 1913, and most of their family recipes derive from that era. The large, old Main Street building features a spacious dining room with storefront windows, tin ceilings and several alcoves for privacy. Eastern European fare includes freshly made Russian beef pirogi (dumplings) and pork tenderloin schnitzel with a puffy bread coating.

Wonderful Hungarian Restaurant

What a wonderful restaurant! The Hungarian recipes taste just like my mother use to make, full of flavor and cooked perfectly! I love the old-world ambiance, especially the paintings and the Hungarian music. I've been twice, driving up from Houston, and it was well worth the trip each time. The wait staff are friendly and efficient; the owner is interesting and fun to talk to, and the chef is a dream come true!!

Don't order duck

the duck is so dry that must be baked or fried twice. We drove all way from Austin. This is a one time Bistro never go back again.

For those who have not yet eaten at European Bistro, a great dining experience awaits you. The food is absolutely delicious, and that applies to every dish we've tried.
We have been dining there for five years with no increase of price during that entire time.
