MY TODDLER WAS HIT BY STAFF!
I have been a long standing customer at this Chuy's for YEARS!!! And what happened to me here this one night will ensure that I never go back!
As usual there was a 45min - 1 hour wait. Which is not uncommon as the food is generally good and the atmosphere is friendly. We had decided to come to Chuy's because we had some family in from out of town that likes to come here EVERY-TIME they are in town. However, they stated they would also never go back after this. The Bartender had made a visible and audible complaint about a question I had regarding the drinks, and what occurred with our wait staff member only made matters worse.
As we waited, we were at a table by the bar and chip area. We could see the servers typing in their orders and picking up their drinks. We had been waiting to be seated for about an hour and where called. At that point we had to let the hostess know that we were still waiting for the server to close the tab. My 2 year old son was standing by his chair as our server (at the bar) decided to throw a drink at someone passing by. My son was standing 2 1/2-3 feet from where the server was. The only person the ice and drink hit was my son (as first point of contact), the party at my table ( as second point) and some people sitting directly behind us. She not only projected the ice and drink towards my son, she then proceeded to throw the glass!!! The glass hit my son and bounced off the floor several times as the force with which it had been project.
It was so surreal to see the whole thing transpire!!!! I think the only time I blinked was when the water and ice hit my face and arm. I WAS SHOCKED! ! ! And needless to say my son gave the loudest wail I had ever heard out of him...he is generally very mild mannered and a good spirited kid. At that moment the shock caused him to start shaking and hyperventilating!!! I could not SPEAK I was so UPSET and as I scooped my son into my arms and sat him on my lap and I said " I need a manager right now"!
We were approached by several concerned staff members and customers that saw what had happened. They were concerned and also shocked at what had occurred. The empathy from the customers and staff members was the closest thing to an apology that we received.
When the manager go to our table he asked if my son was hurt. I advised him that I could not see any visible marks but that he was obviously affected by the servers actions, as he was inconsolable.
I stated to the manager that the servers actions were unacceptable. His response was, " I already sent her home, we are not sure if she will have a job tomorrow". I told him that we had waited an hour and then my son getting hit by the server was beyond anything we had ever experienced dinning out. So the next words he muttered were almost as bad as the cold water and ice on my face, he said....
"Well there is nothing I can do about it"!
My mouth hung open, and all I could muster was "WOW"!
My uncle touched my arm and in a low voice said " Let's go".
That is when the manager said to me " Well! , what did you want me to do?!".
I turned to him and said " You already told me what you can do....nothing"!
I implore all person reading this not to visit the Chuy's location in Round Rock. They are lacking in much more than just customer service!!!!
GREAT VARIETY – Having been raised in Austin, I've eaten a lot of Tex-Mex. I also lived in El Paso and Albuquerque, where the food is very different. Chuy's offers a variety of Mexican food on one menu, although none of it is really "great". If diners are looking for a dinner of local Tex-Mex, they might try another place. But, if you're looking for the kinds of food offered in west Texas and New Mexico, along with traditional Tex-Mex, then Chuy's is the place.
Top of the game – This is one of the best mexican joints around, which is texas is saying a lot. There are more mexican resturaunts in texas than bbq places, well maybe not that many. This one features long waits and strong drinks. Also some of the best salsa dips around. Sometimes I can leave without over eating but not often. Highly recommend !
Great food – very popular place to eat but well worth it. Chuys is perhaps the best mexican resturaunt in Round Rock or Austin.
One of the best I've found. – Always look forward to Chuy's. Customer service is great unlike other places. Food is great. This place is definitely an eatery where many people gather to feed and drink so, if you are looking for a quiet, dining experience, perhaps you should try a taco bell.
Not the best place – We've eaten here several times. We really like their chips and salsa. The food is good. I like the combo plates and so does my husband. However, we have not been impressed with Chuy's sauces. We tried four out of the six and haven't really cared for any of them. The staff is friendly, but not very prompt. The atmosphere isn't even remotely quiet. My husband and I have to speak really loud just to hear each other every time we dine here. Therefore, this isn't our favorite Mexican food restaurant.
Great atmosphere, awesome customer service! – I guess you could say that I am one of the many Chuy's "regulars" at the Round Rock location. I have been ordering take-out for several years now on a once or twice a week basis and I have to say that I have always recieved top notch service. There have been slight mix up's in the past but the staff and management have always gone above and beyond to make our To-Go experience great. Unlike some restraunts in the area I can always walk in to the restraunt and be not only greeted but recognized as well. The waitstaff always seems to be having a good time and our meals come out fast and piping hot! However, there are only so many people that restraunt can hold on a friday or saturday night so I tend to bring the family in on mondays (plus it's avacado enchilada day and that is in my opinion the best dish). All in all, Chuy's offers both good dinning and take-out service and if you have not been than I suggest you give it a try.
great to go friendly staff, busy on weekends – This is a casual tex mex restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. I have found their "to go" staff always very pleasant and helpful. expect to wait on the phone and have a wait time when you place your order on a fri, or sat. it is always busy on those days, i guess we all don't feel like cooking after a long week at work. in all a great experience dining in and on "to go"
Delicious food, great layed back ambiance, friendly staff – Me and my mother went here on a thursday at 5pm and there was still a wait...but totally worth it. The decor is unique and kitschy in a good way. I got the 911, which had spicy chicken ensaladas rice and beans, The chicken inside was tender and soo flavorful. The rice was perfectly seasoned and the re-freid beans were smoky...and I think the best I've ever had. Their tacos are also really good. Our waiter was efficient and friendly. Overall great experience!
Take-Out Order Accuracy is Sub-Par - UPDATED (1/31/2009) – My wife and I have been Chuy's patrons for over 10 years and when we moved to Round Rock, we were happy to find a Chuy's location that was so close to our neighborhood. The location is very convenient and we occasionally order take-out on our way home from a long day of work. To date, Chuy's Round Rock has screwed up our take-out orders more than five times. We are strict vegetarians, so coming home to find a chicken or steak burrito when you are starving is not very pleasant. The restaurant staff has always offered to refund our money and make the order right, but the last thing I want to do after getting home is head back to Chuy's and pick up a re-make of my order. While they have always been apologetic, they have done nothing to correct the actual problem. I am convinced that the staff is incompetent when it comes to order accuracy. All it takes is a bit of quality control at the end of the line, but the management clearly fails to see the importance of this issue even after our numerous complaints. I have placed my last order at Chuy's Round Rock, and I urge others who are contemplating a to-go order from this establishment to please consider one of the many other alternatives in Round Rock.
Since writing the above review about Chuy's take-out order accuracy (or lack thereof), my wife and I have returned to Chuy's and have ordered take-out on several occasions. The Chuy's staff has done an exemplary job improving order accuracy and customer service. Every order we have placed since writing the above review has been 100% accurate. The Chuy's staff has gone the extra mile to double check our orders upon pick-up and informing us that they have done so. This has been done on their own accord and I must say, this is by far the best customer service I have ever experienced. Thank you, Chuy's...
