This Austin cafe offers a quirky atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, local artwork and free wireless as well as specialty coffee drinks and a variety of sandwiches and other edible sweets and treats.. This St. Edwards area café boasts landscaping which changes with the seasons thanks to the garden center that surrounds it. There are always plants in bloom creating a Garden of Eden for patrons perched on their shaded deck overlooking a haven of beautiful ornamentals. Walk into the imaginative café and the theme continues with wicker chairs and organic wall coverings. Local artwork adorns the walls and the comfortable mismatched lounge chairs surround a number of two-top tables. Because there isn't music playing on the speakers it is a great place to get some schoolwork done or to catch up on your latest book. They accept St. Edwards student cards for discounts and offer a public computer with Internet access as well as free wireless.
Best spinach salad in town and MORE!. The best spinach salad in town. Yum! Chicken salad rocks too. They are so open to adjusting ... addiong avocado to the grillled cheese etc. Of course it is my home away from home since I live nearby. I love looking out on the garden while having a great conversation with a friend on the back porch. Very relaxing and great people watching. Oh yeah and did I mention the hot sauce?? I wish they bottled it. Nice, fresh and spicey!
best iced coffee. Good people make good coffee, and the folks at the Garden District are good people. I've been coming here since it was just the owners all day, every day behind the counter. They warmed my heart to this place, and I have yet to be disappointed. The mixed coffee drinks are inventive and excellent, and the food is fresh. The spinach salad is a must! The place is clean, and the attitude is chill. So go on down. Have some coffee; have a sandwich. Visit with the friendly folks working there, and take in a cool view of one of Austin's hippest garden centers.
Best coffee and lunch. This is my favorite place to stop in for coffee or sit down for a great lunch! Sandwiches and smoothies are delicious and it's too tempting to grab a slice of pie for dessert. If you're lookin for a snack go for a little salad or the bruschetta. If your hungry the Cuban is oh-so-tasty; also the veggie sandwich is a personal fave. There's couches and seating inside and a computer if you need to jump on the net. Any day you go in, the owner may be back there helpin with your order and you'd never know it. The staff is down to earth and all smiles. You can sit outside on their patio facing The Great Outdoors on a beautiful day. In Austin, there are many little cafe for lunch and coffee but Garden District is where you'll find great food, vibes and yummy coffee. Go!
It's funny... I had written a review and it's not posted now that they've purchased an ad.... The choice of spice in the chicken salad was awful. I found the food to be below average in taste, poor quality, and poor presentation. To top it all off, the staff was extremely rude. I was lectured for saying a "tall" drink- I said this only because I recently had eye surgery and I cannot see very well. The menu appeared to read tall, not small. The menues are handwritten in chalk, so they are difficult to read. The comment, "huh, you Starbucks people" was made. I try my best to support local coffeehouses, and I don't go to Starbucks! That made me never want to eat there again. Then, we were lectured because our credit card had to be manually entered and it apparently costs the company an extra 50cents to manually type in a card. We had planned on tipping, which would have more than covered said cost, but- after the way it was rudely brought up to us- who cares. I think this place is just full of negative energy and bad food.
