NY- Close but no cigar. I moved down here from NY and have been unavailable to find a pizza parlor identical to NY's. Craig is from NY himself, but hasn't exactly perfected his recipe; changing it every now and then. The pizza is best when he is on staff.
To pizza enthusiasts suffering from chain-restaurant fatigue, this south Austin pizzeria gem is the answer..
In Short
Situated in a busy shopping center off the Southwest Parkway, this cozy, cafe-style eatery bustles with lunching shoppers and dinner-hour families. TVs are mounted at both ends of a comfortable seating area that includes tables and benches along the restaurant's west wall. The New York-style pizza boasts a slightly chewy crust (opt for regular or New York style) baked to perfection; and a sauce, though a bit sweet on first impression, that makes a zesty case for itself. Other Italian crowd pleasers include the meatball sandwich, pasta salad, calzones. And don't overlook the noteworthy selection of wines, including Rioja and other varietals you don't typically encounter at comparable spots.
Pretty bad. This is pretty bad excuse for an Italian restaurant. i don't know who's writing the reviews but I can assure you they don't know good Italian pizza or food, The pizza znd pasta sause is absolutely tastless, they wouldn't last one week in the Northeast.
I still haven't found what I am looking for.... I wish I knew how it was. Have waited 1.5 hours and still waiting, even though I was told it would be 30 min. Been told twice - it is on the way. Manager is nice, but that is about it. Pretty sad that the one thing I DO know is - Anna, the manager, is nice. Hope to write back - cold pizza was good!
Really good food!. This is a great place to eat! Tucked away in a shopping strip, you wouldn't think to stop by for a meal. But it has really good pizza and other italian eats. The staff is friendly too. We lived just outside their 5 mile delivery zone and they still delivered; great food, great staff, great prices.
Best local pizza dive/Italian bistro in Austin. Craig'Os is what I would consider an Italian Bistro. Lovely small atmosphere is the prefect setting to choose from tons of food options. The pizza is outstanding, smothered in almost any toppings you can imagine. But lets say you're not in the mood for pizza (which is hard to imagine, especially here!), the menu is loaded with other traditional Italian delicacies. They have huge portions of fettuccini alfredo, spinich ziti, spaghetti (you MUST try the Bella Linda sauce - combination of marinara/alfedo sauces), anti-pastas, meatball subs, cold-cut subs, and the list goes on. My wife and I eat here at least once a week, and we have yet to run out of new things to try and have yet to find anything that wasn't outstanding. Its like a small town restaurant in a big city. We've gotten to know the owner, most of the workers, and lots of other regulars that eat there, and they are all extremely friendly. The owner will take the time to sit and talk to you and get you anything you might need. There are now 3 of these...the one here on Hwy290, one now at Bee Cave/Mopac, and one by the outlet mall in San Marcos, so there is no reason not to try one. They also have great beer ($4/$5 pitchers of beer on tap) and great wine specials. It can get very full for lunch and weekend dinners, so plan accordingly. They do deliver and all foods can be packaged as well for pickup. The prices are also very reasonable. We typically spend less than $20 for a full dinner including drinks. All in all, this is our favorite Austin restaurant.
Great Pizza!. I just ordered lunch for our office from the Craig O's North location, and was extremely pleased to find this place. Our pizza was terrific and the crisp salads were delicious! We have a new office favorite!!
Fabulous. This place is amazing. It's super casual so the restaurant is very comfortable, the food is so fresh since it's all made from scratch, and the service is extremely friendly. Great pizza and delicious pasta. Try the baked ziti with the bella luna sauce. Scrumptious!
Craig O's: Little Italy In Disguise. Craig O's is great -- my wife and I were thoroughly pleased with the food, drinks, surroundings, and service. The location is unpretentious, inviting, and clean -- casual atmosphere. On our first visit there, we had a calzone stuffed with mozzarella and ricotta cheese, roma tomatoes, and mushrooms -- absolutely magnificent -- perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. We also had a rasta salad -- essentially salad with pasta and Italian dressing -- simple yet delicious. They also have a nice little selection of beer and wine to go with your meal -- a perfect combination with Italian food. You wouldn't really expect to get wholesome Italian food Deep In The Heart of Texas, but by golly, it's here!
Best Italian in Austin. You will not be dissapointed! The food tastes like the owners sicilian grandmother cooks it every day. The prices are great, beer is cheap and pizza is cheezy! The owner is always around making sure you love what you eat. DOn't miss this place!
