A simple, classy Bloody Mary that's tomato-filled enough to restore your body's lost nutrients (this is assuming you are drinking it in brunch form, i.e., recovering from a hangover), but not so spicy as to shock your taste buds.
Great food and atmosphere. It is a pretty unassuming place; however if you are in the area you should try it out. A true Austin restaraunt all the way.
You MUST eat here!. This place is delicious! I think I tried a bite of almost everyone's plate and was very satisfied with everything! I would definitely recommend a side of the baked macaroni. The atmosphere is fun, and it's a great place for a large group. It's conveniently tucked towards I-35 in downtown Austin which makes parking a bit easier if you go early. The only downside to this restaurant is that there are no reservations Friday-Sunday. It gets busy because this place has such a great variety of food, so get there early! Don't worry if you get there and there happens to be a wait because the drinks are great too! I suggest the Silvermoon Margarita!
Salads!!.
The cornflake-crusted chicken salad & the Waldorf chicken salad are terrific!
It can get a little loud when crowded, but the old stone house decor is quite inviting.
Portions are huge.
Only con is $4 for valet.
Amazing food and service!. My wife and I tried this place because we wanted a nice, romantic place to eat while staying in the downtown Hilton after our wedding. The flavor combinations left me astounded and the down-home cooking vibe reminded me of being a child...if the food when I was a child was ten times better. I had the smoked chicken with the Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, and she had the pepper crusted tuna steak with paper-thin fennel and granny smith apples on top...both are HIGHLY recommended. The atmosphere was made even better with being there during the holdiay season. I wish I had been able to remember our waitress' name, because she was amazing. My wife and I will definitely be going back soon.
Awesome Brunch.
Love the brunches here. Moonshine introduced me to my new absolute favorite drink too, the pomagranate mimosa!
I've brought several people to experience brunch at Moonshine, thus far everyone's loved it. The wait for brunch is a pain but it's only because its so awesome.
Excellent Brunch. Excellent time with mother-in-law and my wife for brunch. A top 5 brunch in all of Austin. Strong drinks, excellent food, great service. Usually go here for brunch only. Dinner is hit or miss with service. Servers get busy and forget about their entire section. Never had anything that wasn't delicious to eat there though.
Great food and atmosphere!!!. I must say, I am so glad we tried this place! From the moment, I walked in I knew it would be a great place. There was a little bit of a wait, but there's a bar outside and another waiting area where you can wait, without being in the way of people coming in the place. We had the RIBS! which is a must if you come here! I had the trout as my dish and it was to die for! Definitely coming back when I visit Austin again! We tried to go back before we left town, but it was an hour and a half wait!
Citysearch Editorial Review. A comfortable 1860s house sets the scene. Candlelit windows, oversized mirrors and distinctive artwork embellish the exposed-brick walls and hardwood floors. Behind the main house sits a carriage house-turned-bar amid the trees. The combination of cozy decor, dim lighting and beautiful grounds creates a homey elegance. Intent on providing great American cooking, Moonshine concocted a menu offering classic favorites: corn dog shrimp, baked macaroni, shake-and-bake Parmesan chicken and horseradish-crusted salmon.
I love this freakin place!.
Maybe it's because earlier in the week, paid $12.25 for a shot of tequila at a hotel bar, but the Moonshine shot at Moonshine the restaurant were nothing short of awesome. They had 2 boozes mixed, chilled, and served up for $4.50. For those versed in the vernacular, this gets the job done. After two, I was ready to defend the honor of my beloved IU. Go Big Red! Fortunately for me, standing upright quickly brought the balance compromising potency of the shots to my mind.
Next came the appetizers. My olden lady and I had the Crab Backs. It's a crab cake served in a crab shell. I've had crab cakes all over Chicago (Heaven on Seven, Pete Miller's) and Key West (Kelly's Caribbean, Blue Heaven). The Moonshine Crab Backs were as good or better.
My entree was simple. I had the Buffalo Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Some call it comfort food. I call it great food.
Wait.
I forgot the popcorn that they bring to the table in lieu of nachos. Even it was delicious.
Finally, my wife had the brownie. I was underwhelmed by the lack of middle tongue chocolate complexity. I'm not sure that's a thing but I know what I like. It does not matter, though. I would go back tomorrow if we were still in Austin.
