I just joined city search in order to
specifically right a review about this company (which I've had the worst experience with). I recently called in and spoke with a man named Bob about getting a system. He was very unclear about prices, but not only that it was by far the most unprofessional conversation I've ever had with a company in my life. He sounded disorganized, like he was out and about doing something. Regardless, he was rude, unclear, and it sounded like he was constantly in a rush to get me off the phone. I called in again a few days later and talked to a young lady in the office, she said she'd send my information over to a technician. To my surprise a few hours later Jacob called, he (as opposed to Bob) was very clear with pricing, and gave me his time of day and made me feel like a VALUED customer. I ended up being on the phone with him for quite some time getting all the questions I had out and never felt rushed. After hanging up I had a quote, and clarification. If it wasn't for Jacob, Sloan Security would NOT be getting my business.
*Note to everyone wanting to go with Sloan Security, if Bob picks up the phone ASK FOR JACOB! You won't get the questions you want answered by someone that's incapable of communicating properly.
Jacob then came out to my house to install my system. He was kind, polite, and very very neat. After he got done my total came out to the exact price we had discussed. I was very pleased with my service from Jacob with Sloan Security but highly disappointed with my experience with Bob.
Used Sloan for years. Initially when
they set up my system, it had a trouble signal when the tech was done. He told me that he programmed it correctly and that he didn't know why. He said not to worry about it and left. They came out several times after that to work on various issues with the system because it was never installed correctly. (By the way, you will probably end up paying more to use them when you factor in all the service calls involved)
Eventually, I got fed-up with paying them to come fix the system, so I downloaded a DSC manual off the internet and figured out how to program it myself.
After years of being their customer, I had to move. I had just paid them the yearly monitoring fee (it's $20 a month if you have a cell backup) when I found out I was moving. I called Bob and asked him if they would prorate the year for me since I couldn't use it anymore. He said no way. I then asked him to produce a contract that showed I had agreed to those terms. He said he could not. I told him I was going to go online and report him to the BBB. He responded "I'll find out what you do, and I'll go online and say stuff about you." I then asked him if he thought it was fair that I had to pay him for months of service that he wasn't going to provide me. He laughed and said "Are you that hard up for money?" He then went on and on about how much ADT charges.
Not surprisingly, when I went to the BBB website I found that they already had an "F" rating.
This company is incompetent and unprofessional. I would avoid them at all cost.
Worst Alarm Company. Unfortunately I can not summit my review without giving this company a star, they clearly don't deserve one. This company has been in business since the late 70's. My family used their services for their business, so when it came for me to choose an alarm company I contacted them. When you pay an alarm company for the installation and service you expect them to monitor your alarm and make sure nothing happens, that way you can have some peace of mind that your home or office is protected. Sloan Security states that they moniter your home/business 24hrs. a day 7 days a week. Don't hold your breath on it. Sloan Security places your home/business on a 15 day test, this is when they check that your alarm is functioning, if someone tampers with your phone line inbetween those test dates, you will find a huge surprise when you get back home/office. Sloan Security does not receive any signals if your alarm system is tampered so anyone can break in your home and office and take as long as they need, because no-one will notify the police department about the break-in. I contacted Sloan Security and had to speak with the owner Bob, because their employes have no clue how a security system works and he told me "if you want dialy testing you have to pay for it" and further aded that the big companies do the same type of bad job as his company. When I installed this security system I expected this company to alert me when there was a trouble signal from my home or business but since control station does not get a signal from my alarm until it's test day I will be better off without an alarm system anyway. Hire a real profesional alarm company, a company that will live up to what they say (24hr. monitoring) and not one like Sloan Security that has to charge you extra if you want them to monitor your alarm 24hrs.
Terrible Service and No Idea what they are doing.
If there was a rating lower than 1-star I would have given it to them (a -5 star would be about fair). Seriously, this "company" has no idea what they are doing. Their response to me when I raised concerns about 1. the system not working properly bc they dont know how to operate/program it; and 2. that it seemed odd that they couldn't leave their office assistant a message to send me an insurance certificate was "well you can go back to paying $35 per month with bigger companies."
Sloan's only market point is that you can get monitoring for only $10 per month. But you get what you pay for with this bunch of jokers; by bigger companies I believe Sloan was referring to larger more professional companies that have some clue about what they doing.
I wish I would have seen the other reviews before wasting time and money with this joke of an outfit.
REALLY GREAT!. My office uses sloan as do I and I have sevral friends that use them. No contracts. Great service. VERY reasonable. Not super sales pitchy but specialize your home/office the way you want it to fit your needs and price range. I have had them for 4+ years and my office has had it way over 10 years and we are pleased.
Saving money Overall But Fee's Need to be Clarified.
My only complaint is that I was told to swap my system to Sloan would be $65. It was really $65 an hour and my system took Jacob three hours to figure out and my bill was closer to $200.
In business it's important to be clear and concise about the fee's involved so everyone has the the correct expectations.
I couldn't even get any other companies who do internet monitoring to return my emails so I'm really not complaining too much. There are lots of cheap internet deals online but good luck finding anyone to come do the hookup.
I'm going to be saving about $32 a month now so I will get back all my money and save $204 in the next 12 months. Plus I'm ditching the Verizon line that the ADT alarm and my fax needed so I'm going to be saving almost $800 a year now.
what a crappy company. If you are thinking about getting them to install your home alarm system, look elsewhere, unless you want to get ripped off of course. I was apparently scheduled in for an appt but the ball was dropped and nobody showed up. After a few phone calls, I was given 3 different quotes and confusing prices. Eventually Bob said they don't do quotes, the just show up, do the work, and you pay whatever it is...wtf? Really, how does that work? So once you are here you can basically charge me whatever you feel like it? No thanks, keep your system and I will take my business elsewhere, as should you.
cheap good service.
Bob Sloan, the owner, answered the phone and knew his stuff. I asked for an apmt and he transferred me to Jacob and he came the next day! It was pretty standard cost for install ($350) and cheap for monitoring $10/mth.
CONS: He wore his shoes in my house, didn't ask me before he drilled a big hole in my house where I'd like him to put the motion detector and just put it somewhere he wanted to (which I didn't agree). He came around 30 minutes late. Kept banging my door into his ladder.
PROS: He came in and immediately starting working. Worked for 7 hours until he was done. He was able to use my voip phone line and there weren't any cords sticking out of anything. which was very impt to us. He read the instruction manual/called his office when he didn't know what to do. He cleaned up the mess he made.
I haven't used the monitoring yet, but so far all in all I'm happy with it.
Sloan Security offers cheap prices with low service level. If you are looking for a helpful security company with a great service level then Sloan Security is not for you. I wish that I was told that Sloan Security will charge you for most calls and will do so in a rude manner. They are very inexpensive so you are getting the service that you pay for. Be warned that they are inexpensive but their service level is extremely low.
poor service.
same as all the reveiws. poor service tech would tell us he be right back. never seen him again . the cross the wires i was being call every night a 3 am tell my alarm was not works
buyers beware
plus he wants to be paid a year for service.
