Austin >Giacomo Forbes
Great talker, terrible listener.
A difficult review to write, given that Giacamo is a warm human being.
Went to see him after a personal recommendation and some research. Found him to be a great talker and a terrible listener. I came to him with an open mind about a grow-out of my hair which had been fabulously managed by a master stylist in another town. Unfortunately, my openess and trust extended to the color of my hair and that's where it ultimately ended for me.
His approach to color on my brunette hair was extreme, heavy handed and very damaging to the overall condition of my hair. When I went back in to show him and discuss a different strategy going forth, he first said that my hair was "hard" because of the keratin treatment he sold me and told me to use ($40). Then he said it "wasn't that bad", and ended finally with telling me that he "liked it". And of course- he had product recommendations galore- not one of them that would do anything but mask my dead, straw-like hair condition. All over my objections to the color process, my stated desire that we agree on a different path and in the face of a customer who obviously wasn't happy.
I've spent several hundred dollars (so far) on color correction due to his decision to use chunky bleach and double processing on my very fine brunette hair- all after I had specifically communicated that I liked highlights AND that bleach should not be used on my hair.
Think twice before you let him color your hair. He's coasting on a reputation that is in the past and won't listen to what you really want.
The Arrogance Far Exceeds The Talent. If you are looking for a "stylist" than you are in luck. Giacomo does wonders with a brush and a hair dryer. Unfortunately, his cuts are amateur at best. and his ability to work with different hair textures is lacking. His arrogance far exceeds his expertise and you will ultimately be disappointed with the unflattering cut you are left to work with day to day. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for a precision/professional haircut.
Truly wonderful experience..... Besides being a creative (but matter-of-fact) hair genius, Giacomo is a genuinely good person who cares about his clients' well-being. The salon offers a peaceful and also energizing environment, with comfortable sofas and chairs and good music played at low volume. (I actually took a nap on the sofa in the front room while waiting for my color to process!) Giacomo uses a great color line with super pigments and no ammonia, and instantly knows what shade will make a client as beautiful as possible. He also uses an oil treatment that makes hair feel like silk...even long hair that has been over processed (mine)! I am really looking forward to my next appointment.

Nothing Like It!.
My Sister and I went to the Giacomo Forbes Studio and got our hair done by Scott- it was the coolest experience either of us has ever had at a hair salon. The place is small, intimate and very comfortable, and Scott cut and styled our hair better than we've ever had done anywhere before.
Wow... he is so nice, and he introduced us to Giacomo too. Almost immediately we felt sooo comfortable and at home. I also got my hair highlighted and the result of both the cut and color was exceptional. We looked fantasic! He styled our hair so great, we decided to go out for dinner and drinks to show it off. Seriously, "fashion show" hair!
Scott let us book after 5p and worked late because we both work during the day, and treated each of us to a fresh lipstick application (you should see his makeup kit... to die for!) and sent us on our way to a wonderful evening. We both received compliments on our hair and we felt great!
We both highly recommend the GF Studio, and either Scott or Giacomo. They are close friends who've known each other a long time and are the only hairdressers at the studio... it's like "their place" and it's really wonderful.
