Jerks you around when you need to
cancel service.
I was with Real Green for a while and I needed to cancel our service because the lawn died (not their fail, but they did not help either). When I ask to cancel service due to us not having a lawn anymore, they acted like we have to pay for future services until the end of the year, claiming "installments". I told them I can't pay for services that are not and will not be performed, but they still acted entitled to my credit card. I asked to talk to a manager, and nobody was available.
Bottom line: do not have service with them unless you want your credit card to be charged month after month for no reason.
Did not deliver.
I hired this company in spring 2010 specifically to take care of part of my backyard that was thinning and dying. They diagnosed the problem as take all patch and serviced my lawn for over a year. My backyard got worse so I had the service manager come out to look and he took a soil sample--the ph was STILL too high (after over a year's worth of treatment). They treated again and missed one whole portion of my backyard--treated only the bare spots and not any of the area with thinning grass.
I called and cancelled the service--about 2 pallets worth of grass will have to be replaced. I called and talked to Brandon (operations manager) about getting some kind of refund since I will have to replace so much grass and their "service" didn't work at all--in fact things got WORSE. He said according to their guarantee I would get a refund on the last treatment (a whopping $60).
Not only did my backyard get worse, my overall yard doesn't look any better than it did when they began treating it over a year ago. Not greener, not thicker, still have weeds that they were supposed to treat--including spot treat.
I would not recommend this service to anyone. In fact a co worker recommended a friend of his who works for a different company and he used to work here--quit because he didn't like the way they did things. I will be hiring him instead.
Everyone at Real Green was courteous except for the owner, but they do shoddy work and I'd rather have good work than courteous. And a service that actually delivers what it promises--or gives you a refund if they don't.
**************Update (Aug 2012) after almost a year of firing this company. I had an attorney friend contact the company for me in the fall since I was getting nowhere. I asked that the owner come out an look at my yard himself and then tell me that his company was not to blame. He told my attorney he was "tired of dealing with me"--after talking to her only TWICE. How's that for customer service? Awful!!!!
I did put in 2 pallets of grass this spring. I again saw spots on the grass forming in May and went to home depot and bought a bag of fungicide ($16). I have been using half a bag twice a month and my yard looks AWESOME!!! Thick, full, green, no spots or thinning. The best it has looked in 10 years!!! I should have done this myself in the first place since apparently I know more by looking on google than their experts.
As a side note, I hired Emerald Lawns to fertilize so the new grass would get the best start. Luke the owner is terrific--HE knows customer service. His prices are also half that of Real Green for the exact same service and he only charges you when he comes out and services the yard so there are no HIDDEN COSTS. Everything is up front. A superb company!!! I highly recommend them.
Communication. I really like the personal service provided by these guys. My account manager Lynda calls each time before they treat the lawn which allows me to put my dogs inside. This is a big deal to us, thumbs up Lynda. My technician Drew got the weeds under control, he urged me to not skip the December treatment. I asked why, the lawn is brown and not growing. Drew let me know that a key step in the weed control program occurs during this time and looking at the weeds in my neighbors lawn I am glad we didn't skip the winter application. The guy that initially came out explained how their Aqualizer treatment works and I was reluctant to give it a try. After his urging I went ahead and had the Aqualizer treatment done to help my watering efforts. The treatment increases the soil's ability to hold water and it works, no summer die back or discoloration in the lawn which had occurred in the past. They really improved the appearance of my lawn, thanks RealGreen.
Thank You.
I was told by another company that my lawn was suffering from some type of disease problem so I contacted Real Green for a second opinion. I met with a gentlemen by the name of Tal? that was incredibly helpful and patient when it came to explaining the different levels of services Real Green offered.
Their representative assured me the problems I was seeing in my lawn were not caused by any type of a disease but was due to lack or irrigation.
I must admit I had my doubt but decided to follow his advice and changed the times and length of my irrigation cycles. Three weeks later my lawn was green!
I fired my previous company and set up a "basic" lawn care plan with Real Green.
Tal? did go out of his way to explain that the program I choose only included fertilizer and weed control. He told me if I start to have other problems with disease or the shrubs that I may need to pay for additional services but he didnt feel that would be necessary due to my grass type? I dunno what that meant but okay :)
Anyways, I am very happy with how thorough their representative was when he came out explaining all the cost of pretty much every service they offer. (my previous company didn't tell me about any of this up front)
Thanks Real Green!
Lawns.
Bottom line, if you're just looking for basic yard service of fertilizer and weed control, save yourself $500 by going to Home Depot/Lowes and buying a spreader, fertilizer and Spectrazide.
Maybe my expectations are too high. I've had real green for 2 years. I thought they were a one-stop shop. They come out like they are supposed to and spray. But it seems like they are more set on hitting a schedule than results. And they're services seem fragmented.
I have their basic lawn service. Well I have 3 shrubs in my yard that are clearly dying, one that is completely dead. The grass around the shrubs is completely dead as is half the yard. I had to call them to complain about the shape of my yard. The person had no notes on my account about any issues.
They sent out one guy for the grass and one for the shrubs. Of course I get a bunch of pamphlets after the visit with all these services I can buy. My grass was growing and shrubs were fine, I hired Real Green and now my lawn and shrubs are dying? And I had to call them!
They do a great job of getting rid of weeds and aerating, but you could do that for way cheaper and in minutes.
Good job, good job..
WOOT!!
This is the 2nd year using Real Green Lawn Care - these guys know what they are talking about.
Last year, wasn't so good - blame the drought for that. But following their mowing instructions, watering plan and fertilizer guidelines - looks like it's gonna be awesome.
Customer service was top notch, Real Green are Real Friendly.
very happy. always been happy with these guys. prompt, courteous, and effective. i'm very happy with their services. have been using them now for almost two years. and in my case has made a very noticeable difference. maybe my yard isn't as bad as others and i'm sure the drought hasn't helped, but on my little over an acre lot it is money well spent peace of mind, not having to worry with it, and a great looking yard.
Great service!. Real Green has been keeping my lawn in great shape for many years, and they have always provided me with fantastic customer service. However, I too have been suffering from a nasty lawn recently. So have my neighbors and friends. These guys know what there doing, and there's just nothing that can be done with the water restrictions and heat. But I can assure you all that when the weather eases up on us, Real Green will have our lawns looking stellar.
Avoid, Scammers - Low BBB rating. Avoid at all cost - they scam people into thinking they're getting something they're not then when you want to cancel they'll threaten a lawsuit if you don't pay - we never even signed anything either. It was cheaper to just pay them the little amount rather than fight in court. They've been reported to the BBB several times and I'm surprised they haven't been shut down for unethical business practices.
Not impressed.
I wish I had read some of the reviews here before starting service with this company. I began service in around May of 2010. They came when they said they would, but I'm not sure what they did because my lawn did not improve. In fact, at one point, I could tell that whatever they applied had a negative impact (there was an obvious yellow patch in a very specific spray pattern around the yard). I paid extra to have aeration and chinch bug treatment, but still my grass did not look any better. I followed all of their instructions about how much to water and how often to mow. After a full year, I called to cancel because my grass looked worse than when I started their service.
Here is the kicker. They convinced me to give them a few more months to make things right and that I would have 2 months free. They sent out a manger to walk the yard and I pointed out areas of concern. He had no real suggestions except that he would get some growth treatment and have a sprinkler guy come out to adjust. The growth treatment didn't help and the sprinkler guy said the sprinklers didn't need any adjustment. I gave them the 2 months and even a few more (that I paid for), but still things just got worse and worse. I finally called to cancel and was sent a bill for $200 as the final amount that I owed. Seriously? After paying $50 per month for a year and a half, I still owe $200 for a yard that looks worse than when I started??? I tried working with them but they wouldn't budge on the final payment.
Avoid this company. Their service doesn't help and their customer service is even worse.
