What Our Expert Scouts Say

Galaxy Cafe
December 11, 2012

For the more granola French Toast aficionado, Galaxy Cafe serves a whole grain variety, layered with bananas and strawberries -- almost like a double-decker fruit sandwich. The pleasing nooks and crannies of the toast itself, dusted liberally with powdered sugar, will weaken the resolve of even the staunchest Atkins dieter.

I've never liked the atmosphere in here (dark, industrial) but the strawberry French toast and French press coffee almost makes up for it.

Really great food, friendly people and good prices!. My wife and I go here about once a week. They have a seared tuna asian salad that is awesome. Burgers and sweet fries are great. Highly recommend this place!

Great atmosphere and polenta cakes!. We really enjoyed ourselves at The Galaxy Cafe last night. We were looking for a light, healthy dinner and they delivered perfectly. We shared an amazing yogurt Bran Muffin and the famous mozzarella and pesto Polenta Cakes! They are Grilled tomato, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil pesto layered between polenta cakes on a bed of roasted red bell pepper sauce (I borrowed this description from their menu:). The meal also came with a hefty salad (I LOVED the balsamic dressing). Between the muffin, salad, and entree, there was plenty for my date and I to have a light dinner. The service was my favorite 2 things as well.... fast and friendly. There is no mistake why this restaurant is doing so well!

great food. This was my first time going here for brunch on Sunday with a girlfriend of mine & her friend visiting from Chicago. She had been there a few times before & recommended the brunch - we were not disappointed. Drinks were served promptly & with a smile. The atmosphere is very airy & homey - We each had the brunch. We all ordered the eggs cooked differently & they were right on target. The home fries were yummy. What makes all of this even more appealing is the price - under 15 bucks!!

An added bonus is that it was easy to find parking since it was Sunday & all parking rules are suspended.

Best Food- Best Staff. I just moved here from TN and was looking for a relaxing spot with good food and a great atmosphere to either read by myself or meet up with a girlfriend. THIS IS IT! The food was excellent, the staff was so friendly, and the atmosphere was great. Retro dining - meets both sophisticated and low key yummy dishes. I went to the Brodie location and cannot WAIT to go to the others! I am a follower. Eat here- you will not regret it!

Late Night Treat. My husband and I had run errands and they took longer than expected. We stopped in the shopping center with Maudie's, Brick Oven etc. for dinner and unfortunately many of the places were already closed. We were hungry and didn't want fast food. We entered Galaxy Cafe at 9:45, feeling bad because we knew they closed at 10:00. The cashier was friendly, and our food arrived promptly. My husband's chicken sandwich was delicious and we ended up fighting over his french fries because they were so good. My gorgonzola and bacon cheeseburger was extremely tasty and you can't miss the pesto pasta. Even though they were about to close, none of our food tasted old or reheated. I plan to return soon to get another gorgonzola bacon burger! :)

Unimpressive. Never impressive, generally ho-hum luke-cold food. Eating it not by my own choice when the boss chooses. Good menu ideas but the taste from the menu never quite makes it to my palate. Probably well intended owners not watching the employees.

Great family spot for a quick brunch. We've been frequenting Galaxy since it opened, especially for their brunch. This is an example of one of those places that just gets all the details right. The decor is fun - inspired 50's Modern with a heavy dose of Ikea; the service is amazing; the food is always good.

The entire atmosphere is very family-friendly without being kid-centric. Its one of the few places we go that's not a compromise for either my wife and I or my daughters (2 and 6).

Standouts are the quiche, the antipasto salad, and the fresh mozarella sandwich. Coffee is also great, especially the individual French Press. Nothing's bad, but the burgers aren't up to the standard of the rest of the place.

Its always packed, but the line moves quickly, and the atmosphere is always really friendly and pleasant. We started going to Galaxy for weekend breakfast because the waits at Magnolia, Curra's and Kirby were just too long, Now, we go as a first choice in its own right.

The West Lynn location manages all the charm of the Brodie location in an even brighter, more inviting space.

Definitely recommended.

Hip and delicious South Austin alternative to chain dining.. In Short
Friendly, attentive staff, piped-in jazz, and cool, retro touches contribute to this unique, counter-service eatery. Busy lunch-goers can choose from 100 percent Angus burgers, wraps, salads, soups, vegetarian dishes, kid-friendly items and daily blue-plate specials. For breakfast there's spinach feta quiche, a hearty Denver scramble or French toast. Dinner highlights include blackened tilapia with a pineapple pico de gallo or bowtie pasta with shrimp. Dessert features creme brulee, chocolate torte or a fresh-baked cookie.

Trendy and Delicious in South Austin. It is the BEST restaraunt in south Austin hands down. There is no place like it around. It is refreshing how Chris and Kellie (owners) have changed things up for the better down here. You can bring the family or dine with your friends. The service is top notch and the owners go out of their way to make everyone that walks through their door feel at home and welcomed. Some might say parking can get tricky sometimes but it doesn't stop me or my family from stopping by often. We eat here at least once a week sometimes twice. I love it!
