Light Bar: Don't Waste Your Time. If having a good time with good friends downtown is what you're after, just walk right past light bar. You can get drinks and music anywhere downtown and the service here is a disaster.

Some friends and I went in last weekend as I had remembered the rooftop balcony being a fun place to chill out. We had to pay a $5 cover to get in (very unusual for a downtown bar in Austin where most are cover free) but we wanted to go upstairs so we sucked it up.

The second we got up onto the roof and before we had any drinks someone from their staff said that they were closing the rooftop for the evening (only midnight on a Saturday) and we had to come down. No biggie, just give us back our cover and we'll find somewhere else to go.

We were told to talk to the night manager about it. Rather than just give us our $5 covers back he takes an attitude with us for trying to cheat his bar. One of my friends raises his voice which was apparently just what the manager was waiting for. He says that we can't yell at him in his bar and that we need to get out or he is going to throw us out. We asked for his name and he refused to tell us. One of the cashiers told us his name which I will refrain from publishing here but if anyone from the bar reads this I'm sure they can figure out who the saturday night hothead midnight manager was.

In short, light bar must be cash strapped to fight over $5 covers at the expense of losing customers for life. Downtown Austin is an amazing place and there are just better options for a night out.

Warning:Pay in Cash!. Ridiculous! Hold on to you credit/debit cards. Even when you do open a tab [leave your credit/debit card with the bar] - each time you buy a drink using your credit/debit card, The Light Bar places a $50 hold on your account that supposedly drops off in 5 business days. That means that the 2 times we bought drinks at $7.50 and $15.00 translates into a $100 hold on my funds in my account. CRAZY [and they do not tell you this before you make a purchase].

Most unique bar in Austin. Unige meaning very cool hip design.. All stainless steel decor, has a cool water wall. This place has the loudest music in Austin. Three bars throughtout the two level establishment. Upstairs ususally has a live D.J and downstairs has a llive band during happy hour. caters to a variety of types.

Super view of downtown Austin. So many cool things about thre light Bar. Live Music during Happy Hour, Live D.J's late night, and very reasonable cocktail prices. Really busy with very pretty people. Very hip and modern look. Two levels with bars on each level.

Awesome Saturdy Nights. Moderatley priced, very hip and trendy. My favorite bar in Austin. Very comfortable attire.. Met los of cool people there this last year. great place to soak in the views of the city. right across from the Frost Bank. Easy parking, close to everything.

Terrible Service; ununderstanding. I would not recommend this bar at all. They overcharge for every drink possible. Seriously, four dollars for a Bud Light or eight dollars per wine glass? No way. On top of that, they have shoddy tables. I bumped a table on accident, which spilled my brother's wine terribly, and they charged me for another wine altogether without asking me. Go elsewhere if you want some "high class" drinks. These guys do not emphasize; they just want the most dough from the customer as possible.

Horrible Club. This bar is not what it used to be. I would be surprised if it is around for much longer. It is over priced. The only thing they have going for them is the cool furniture and setting.

User review by stephenf. Whenever I come to Ausitn for business I make sure to stop by Light Bar for an evening of fun. Downstairs is ultra modern with great music. The decor is amazing and it feels like you're in New York or LA. Upstairs has an unbelievable view, with a laid back atmoshere. You can even catch a great live band. What more can you ask for!
