What People Are Saying About Sushi Japon

In Short – While its frontage-road setting is somewhat lacking, the affordable Japanese fare makes up for any lost view. This former steakhouse offers a creative sushi menu using the freshest ingredients. Maki rolls are generous and inexpensive; try the crab stick crunchy roll or the tangy shrimp avocado roll. Twenty-six different nigiri and sashimi and eight chef's specialty rolls (check out the Caterpillar, with eel and avocado or the Hot Night, with shrimp tempura, tuna, avocado and hot sauce) leave no areas unexplored.
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- Sushi Japon prides itself on offering lunch specials Monday through Saturday. Enjoy chicken, steak, shrimp tempura and more, plus miso soup, salad and rice for around $7-$10.
- What to Drink:
- Try some Sake from the full bar.
Best Sushi Place

Let me start off...I love this place! I've been coming back to Sushi Japon for several years now and I feel that I have not been disappointed yet. Besides having the time to create a type of customer relationship with all of the staff, they are always so welcoming and greet me as if I am the last customer they will ever have at their restaurant.
My food has always been prepared to how I like it even if I wanted to add or take something out. The fish is great quality and I have never been sick from eating there. The rice itself is great. Perfect texture and perfect taste. They have all of your basic rolls and much more. They will go out of there way to make any kind of roll for you as long as they have the supplies for it.
There drinks are delicious as well. My favorite is their Lychee Martini. It is very sweet and taste a lot like Lychees. I advise trying it.
The staff is very generous, especially with her regulars. They always remember what I like and what I do not like. On my Birthday, they have sung to me and given me like a free roll, dessert, or even like a drink. They always surprise me with something.
The menu is great and has a wide selection. I've been there when its packed and when its at its slowest and the service I got was fantastic either way.
I recommend anyone to go there

You can get much better sushi in Austin

We went for lunch, where I ordered the sushi plate with 6 pieces of nigiri sushi and 3 pieces of california roll. I was told they were out of toro and encouraged to order "hamachi toro", which I assumed was the belly piece of the hamachi, for $9. I was told that this hamachi toro was to hamachi as toro is to regular tuna, so I decided to give it a try. My companion ordered the shrimp tempura bento box.
At first sight, I was struck by the tiny size of the pieces of sushi. I mean, grocery store nigiri and California rolls would dwarf these. I was also disappointed that they included fake crab and overcooked shrimp as two of the nigiri. Anyway, the sushi rice was fine, but none of the fish tasted really good. The maguro tuna was the best. The so-called hamachi toro was nothing like toro. It was extremely firm and a little bit oily where toro is soft and tender and spreads around the mouth as you eat it. It would have been ok for $2.50 a piece, but not $9 for two, especially given the tiny pieces.
The bento was ok, with two pieces of tempura shrimp and five or six of tempura vegetable.
There's really no point in having sushi at Sushi Japon except for the staff. The people who work here seem really warm. On the other hand, when the waitress asked me how I liked the hamachi toro after I'd eaten one of the two pieces and I told her I was very disappointed, she did not offer to take the remaining piece back and not charge me. A really good restaurant would have done that.
- Pros: Very warm and friendly service
- Cons: Very poor value

If you go to dine at sushi japon expect to eat a delicious meal. Everything is well prepared. The service is wonderful and everyone is friendly and attentive. It is a great place to bring family & friends. Both the sushi and the habachi grill foods are out of site or should I say out of this world!
- Pros: food and service
Best Sushi in Austin - Hands Down
by StephRich000 at Citysearch
This place is absolutely fabulous. The combination of food, service and atmosphere makes it my favorite restaurant. The owners are incredible. They are extremely friendly and have worked very hard to provide the best food and service in Austin. I applaud them for being friendly and very accomodating, which seems to be lacking in so many restaurants these days. Once you go there, the other sushi restaurants in town will seem to disappear.
