All night happy hour from Sunday to Thursday with discounted drinks and food... It's not the best fish though.
Sushi awesome/ bar another story. i was suprised by the amount of sushi and the quality i was very pleased! When it came to the bar i was not impressed what so ever. There is a bartender that looked like a wax character. He wouldnt stop talking about comic books. HE even yelled at a waitor infront of me. Suggestions hire a new bartender that can carry a conversation with an adult.
Great sushi, even better service!. We were visiting Austin from Denver and had a wonderful experience at Maiko! Try the avocado tempura with the jalapeno relish - yummy!
Best so far.
Been on a quest for a decent sushi place for nearly three years. So far, Maiko is the winner. The rolls don't have quite the flavor, pop and presentation I'd gotten used to in my last home city, but they're pretty good.
This was the first restaurant in Austin in which I received really good service, which husband and I still find infrequently at best. An order misunderstanding on our first visit was cleared up quickly and without fuss. In general, the waitstaff is fairly knowledgeable about the menu and quick to find out answers that they don't know.
We happened in once on a Sunday and were offered a choice of seating, with bar seating being eligible for happy hour specials. The specials, by the way were great. Think it was half price off a certain list of rolls and cheap sake, though I may have that wrong.
I'm still searching for awesome sushi that makes me giggle and drool, but til I find that, Maiko is a pretty good stand in.
Below par food, bleh atmosphere, horrible management. I work down the street from Maiko and finally visited it for the first time and last time. Upon walking in, the hostess, who was chatting with another employee didn't even look our way and took 5 minutes to acknowledge us before seating us. The reaon we went to the bar was because we read online that they had a special on Tuesdays for $1 sake bombs. We ordered our food and drinks and our waitress was decent and as helpful as she could be without knowing much about the food. The food was not special, Austin has much better sushi and Japanese fusion restaurants to offer. When the check came, we noticed we had not received the special we had initially come in for because we were seated in the wrong side of the restaurant. My friend talked to the manager and we were both incredibly disappointed in the way she reacted. She talked to us like it was our fault we did not know we had to sit 10 feet away from where we were seated to receive the special. When my friend told her we were not offered an option of seating, she said they don't ask anyone where they want to be seated. The manager, Lisa? or Linda? was curt, rude, and obviously does not care about customer satisfaction at all. We were extremely disappointed in this restaurant overall and do not understand how it received any good ratings. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER RESTAURANTS IN AUSTIN THAT HAVE HIGHER QUALITY FOOD, SERVICE, AND ATMOSPHERE.
Decent not excellent. Nice building, nice atmosphere very good service. The sushi was very good, though the rice was not to my liking.
MY FAVORITE SPOT IN AUSTIN. everything about this place is the shit!! No wait... great food, great service!! COOL ATMOSPHERE!! I LOVE MAIKO!!!!
Damn Good!!!. I was in town for an event and stayed at the extended stay across the street. i was craving sushi so a friend and I went for a late nite dnner. The Sushi was the Bomb!!! i had something that had TExas in the name. Then i had a bloody mary. DAMN it was good. i didn't even get a headache the next day or woozie. When i'm back in Austin..i'm hitting this place up again.
Great Restaurant!!. I only go there during Happy Hour special when they serve nigiri sushi & rolls for only $3, $4 bucks. Good service, resonable price with good quality of food. WIll come back again!!
Best sushi in texas. this is one of a kind restaurant in texas......great food and fresh sushi........I'll be back soon!!!!!
Amazing Sushi and Great Service. I've walked or driven by this place a thousand times, but had never gone in. There are a limited number of sushi options for lunch downtown and I thought I'd try Maiko. The service was prompt and courteous. Water was on my table and a waiter greeting me within a minute of being seated. I looked through the lunch specials and had a combo that had a spicy tuna roll and 4 pieces of nigiri. The special also came with miso soup and salad with a typical ginger dressing. The soup was great, not too much tofu, but enough. The salad was rather large for a side salad, but was great. The dressing was a familiar ginger type dressing, but a little sweeter. It was great. The sushi was amazing. It was comparable to Kenichi or Musashino. The fish was high quality and seemed to melt in my mouth. I'm not that fond of salmon typically, but the salmon here was very fresh. Additionally, there were additional pieces of sashimi that were amazing. I would highly recommend this place.
