Horrible Place. Food has too much grease, and too much seasoning. When i went there last I almost fell because the stairs had a piece of rubber that i tripped on. Bar staff is extreamly slow, and so is the wait staff. Menus are always greasy and table have crumbs on them.

Great food Great Fun Great Place to take your UT students to when visiting. We recently took a weekend to visit our daughter who is a UT student and we took her and 3 of her friends to Mesa Ranch South. Incredible food and service! We all ordered different entrees and shared bites so we could sample a variety of dishes and they were all fabulous. But the best part was the Filet of Mignon which I ordered - truly melt in your mouth, tender, well seasoned, beef. The Live Music was a plus and not over-powering which allowed us to visit with our daughter and her friends. I know my daughter will no longer object to our visits when she knows that a dinner at Mesa Ranch is thrown in with the deal :)

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. After several years of patronage, one night in June, I left my cell phone at the restaurant. The help stole the phone - which was confirmed. When I was unable to retrieve my phone, I would have at least expected the manager to offer some gratuitous token. None was made and I have not been back since. In Impact this week, the names of the owners were mentioned. I was impressed with the owner's father being prior owner of the Barn. We used to visit there all the time, (yes, I am an Austenite). So, I called Ray and spoke to him and let him know that I no longer was a patron and why. He indicated he wished he had known about the situation earlier and failed to offer anything in order to have my patronage returned. I was floored. Yes, I left my phone. And, no I am not out for a free drink. Yet, a glass of wine on the house would have me back. Things happen in the service oriented business, you must make the customer happy if you want return business. It is sad that they will never see me or my friend circle again.

mesa south. mesa ranch just moved into my neighborhood a couple months ago. at first i was a little sad to find out that one of my favorite asian restaurants had closed to make way for this new place, but since mesa ranch has opened, ive found myself frequenting the same building even more than before. my favorite thing ive had on the menu so far is the ancho pork tenderloin, its wrapped in bacon and comes with some slightly spicy mashed potatoes, really good. it does seem somewhat empty the times that ive been there, but i hope its just because its new and still getting a footing because its a nice addition to the area.

Mesa Ranch South. We went expected great food like we heard. We were there for an hour and a half because they lost our ticket (restaurant was empty.) They handled the situtaion very poorly still charging us. The service was horrible with drinks being empty the whole time. It seemed they hired kids who don't care about service and quality. After they packed our food to go...the food wasn't even good. Luby's has a better chicken fried steak!!! I would not recomend them to anyone, maybe the north restaurant, but NOT the south!!!

South Austin Location !. Having been a long time fan of the north mesa ranch...i was overjoyed to discover they had opened a new location at the southwest corner of oltorf and I35. In addition to dinner music the south location has live music during happy hour as well which is from 4-7pm.They feature many appetizers at 1/2 price during this time and $1 off all drinks. In keeping with the south austin vibe, this location is a tad more casual than its northern counterpart. You can feel comfortable and never underdressed. There are a few additions to the south menu, including: fajita's , Nacho's, and the pablano macaroni sidedish...which is served in a cast iron skillet and way better than any other fried macaroni ive tried anywhere. After u fill ur belly with ranch food....definitely try the desserts ..none have let me down yet, and the bread pudding with candied pecans is especially tasty.

Great steaks at great prices!. The quality of the steak at this place is as good as any place in Austin. The seasoning is perfect and the steaks cooked perfectly. For me, i always get the bone in ribeye, the wife always gets the fillet. What makes this place better than the other steak houses in austin are the side dishes. The corn in the husk is beautiful, the steak fries great, and the grilled asparagus the best i've ever had! Make RSVP for fri/sat nights.

Overall steaks here are better than Joe D's and J's, on par with III Forks and Flemings, just a cut below Ruth Chris - but in all cases the prices are better here. If i had the money, i'd go here every weekend.

Live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

For service, always ask for Kevin!

Mixed Bag: Wonderful music, poor service, good food. We don't eat steaks out often because I enjoy grilling them over pecan at home. But Mesa has always had a nice steak at a fair price. Our last trip may be our last trip. We had a friend along so it wasn't too bad that we had time to talk, but 10 minutes before getting our drink order, and another 15 minutes before getting them served was not acceptable. I told our waiter they had the slowest bartender in town. We ordered wine before our meal, and had almost finished eating before it showed up. My steak was cold - cooked perfectly, and nice meat, but would have been much better served right after cooking. The server never checked so I could complain. I think I know why it wasn't crowded on a Friday night. I wish the staff cared.
