Ultra-hip Eastside neighborhood boasts one of the most creatively decorated bars of the city..
In Short
Walking into this petite bar for the first time can really set someone back. Designed by the now-famous Joel Mozersky, (creator of Oslo, Uchi and the Real World Austin house) the teal and white-encrusted space with matching tchotchkes resembles its namesake. Young urban professionals, hip artists and other in-the-know folk settle in with creatively titled specialty cocktails--a Tailfeather comes with green tea vodka, sake, and brewed green tea --or choose from one of 13 beers.
favorite place for a relaxing night out. my roommates and i absolutely LOVE this bar! the decor is beautiful, the drinks are absolutely delicious, and the dj always happens to have the perfect playlist going. the bartenders are always so friendly and attentive and the crowd this place draws is just as fun. if you're looking to get away from the over-the-top craziness of 6th street and the pretentious snobs on 4th, this is definitely the place to go!
fridays are good. Friday nights are a lot of fun if you like indie rock, 80's, dance and electro. The crowd changes each time I go. They have 2 girl djs who are really friendly. You can't smoke inside or take your drink with you outside. The drink prices are a little high, but decent. Good music.
Awful. The Peacock is the physical embodiment of all that is wrong with Austin hipster culture. I came here for a friends' 21st birthday (why you would choose this place for a night of fun is beyond me), and was sorely disappointed. First of all, the place is incredibly tiny, with not nearly enough seating. Everyone in the bar looked like they would rather be somwhere else: scenesters there to be seen and see others. The problem with these places is they are staffed by hipsters who have no respect for the bartending profession and thus are severely lacking in service and knowledge: There were about 20 people in the bar when I arrived, two girls ahead of me, and it still took me close to 20 minutes to get a beer. Horrible, horrible service. The music is also way too loud, eliminating any charm the small, intimate setting could hope to have. Bottom line, go someplace else.
