Seven years ago, Cork & Co. brought a much needed service to the hard-working foot soldiers of downtown Austin: A solid wine bar, steps away from their offices. People adore Cork & Co., and not just for their wines. The atmosphere here is truly warm and welcoming, kind of like an extremely classy Cheers.
FANTASICO!. This place is great, from the wine to the cheese and back! My wife and I are becoming regulars at Cork and make it part of our night when we head downtown. The staff is friendly and always attentive, the atmosphere is cozy but not snobby for the average to novice wine drinker. One thing I like is that ability to sample serveral wines as they offer flights. If you are looking for a great date night this is your place.
Great Pre-Dinner or After-Dinner spot. I love Cork & Co. They have a great vareity of wines and champange to sample by ordering a flight, or if you know your favorite, you can order a glass. Try the chocolate truffles with a flight of champange. Mmmmm!! The only negative, is it is sometimes hard to find a seat.
Finally... a REAL wine bar in Austin. I have been to almost every wine bar there is in Houston, and I have been waiting forever for one to pop up in Austin. I have been to a few places that mention a wine list, and they generally end up being just decent. This restaurant is the best for a nice romantic date. They offer many kinds of wine flights for you to try (wine flights are tastes of three to five wines generally). The last time I went (a few months ago) they offered some small card games that vary in topics from sports to something a little bit more riskee ;-). They also offer up some cheese plates for your palette. AND They do offer some wine tasting classes (another great date idea).
I'm afraid to give this place a great review.... ...because then everyone will know about it! The staff here is very friendly... excellent, fun place to go. The wine flights are inexpensive... and interesting... and there's a wide variety of choices. Ms. Jane's wine classes are great fine and a great deal. This is a fun bar for people who are really in to wine... people who WANT to get in to wine... and people who want a different atmosphere than a loud night club@
IT'S WINE TIME!.
Now this is the place you need to go if you are looking for just that perfect bottle of Vino to discuss terms of an agreement or an engagement. The staff is simply the best that Austin has to offer and ownership stands alone. There's just something about the vibe of this joint once you pass those 2 old wine barrells as you enter cork. It will be around for a long time and will have not competition in the wine world as long as they are here!
ciao~3~
Great Date Spot!. I had heard about Cork through friends and went there with a date. What a great place! I am usually so intimidated by wine menus, but the Cork menu is so easy to navigate, even if you don't know anything. We also had an amazing server that really took the time to suggest and explain things to us. Very cozy atmosphere with uplifting muisc and vibe. It did get crowded, but the noise level still remained at a minimum. Great chocolate truffles too.
Great location, ambiance and value. I was introduced to Cork and Co by a friend. The setup is fantastic; its a mature, quiet wine bar. Because of their designation, they can sell wine retail, so their prices are much less than other downtown spots. Buy a bottle, it's very worth it. The atmosphere is fantastic and the music is ambient and unobtrusive. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My only complaint is that it was very crowded on a Thursday when I visited but apparently they are expanding which I imagine will solve that.
Doubling both as a wine bar and shop, this upscale spot offers a comfortable setting for groups and couples..
In Short
A casually sophisticated venue, it presents a seasonal wine list by the taste, glass, and bottle. A wall of elegantly stored vintages dominates the open room, which is scattered with tables and seating. Weekly classes provide instruction for budding and refined palettes, while sampling events highlight wine families and food pairings. On most evenings, retail-focused shoppers make way as the largely professional clientele in their late 20s to 40s come in for glasses and appetizers.
