The Gary Bowl will change your life...no really...it will!!
It's not on the menu, but when you step up to order they will know exactly what you're talking about!
The spicy grilled chicken, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, juicy black beans, rice, and wonderful combination of teriyaki sauce and queso might become your new favorite meal. I know what youre thinking...teriyaki AND queso? In the same dish? YES! Mixed all together the flavors are wonderful! Order it...you won't regret it!
I <3 Wahoo's – I love this place. Very relaxed, laid-back, beachy feel. I highly recommend the salsa and guac. It's amazingly fresh and delicious! I take all my friends here.
There is only street parking, so during certain hours it could be difficult to find parking.
Wahoos RULZ! – Ok, I was brought here by a co worker since we work near downtown and wanted something fast and yummy. This place was awsome!! Super relaxed, but very fast and professional. I love the decor and the fact that you can eat inside or on the patio on a nice day (who the hell doesn't like patio dining in Austin?) My coworker INSISTED I order the fish tacos with rice and black beans with a side of the most AMAZING green creamy sauce ever made!!! I was in love at first bite!! The rice is to DIE for especially with the green sauce mixed in!! There are friendly people all over this restaurant, and I have been MANY times since, and it's never lacked in anything! I bring my kids and husband here anytime we're close to it, and the whole family has a great dining experience. If you're looking for a place to 'unwind' for lunch..this is THE PLACE!! I hear they have great shows/ live music at night too. Anyone who doesn't enjoy this place should probably stick to the stuffy 'reservation' style eateries. I *HEART* Wahoos!!!!
Wonderful! – I live in Los Angeles so I know Wahoos from being in Ca. I am moving to Austin next year (back to my old home) and am soooo glad Wahoos opened up a store there! THey have excellent Mexican food dishes- many healthy choices. I love their Blackened fish and Teriyaki beef and chicken bowls. I can't wait to eat there when I move to Austin. I really recommend this place to eat at! Thanks Wahoos for expanding to Texas, now I hope Pinkberrys and Trader Joes come to Austin next!
Awesome happy hour and food! – Wahoo's has Friday happy hour specials from Spring until Halloween where the cost of a pint of Bud Light, Miller Light, or Shiner Bock and 10 oz margaritas, is equivalent to the temperature outside. For example, it was 75 degrees outside, and our drinks were $.75 each. The food is fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the tacos and the bowls. It's a great place to relax, and unwind after the work day is done.
Take a refreshing break from fast food with fusion surf fare. – In Short
The nearest Wahoo's may be miles from the ocean, but this chain creates a beachy atmosphere with cabana-esque decor and a Hawaii surf-themed menu that serves a fresh, light and tasty fusion of Latino, Asian and Cajun fare. Bowls, burritos and combos come filled with your choice of meat, blackened or teriyaki style. Side dishes include Ahi rice, Cajun beans and Baja rolls--flour tortillas spread with cream cheese, leaf spinach, chopped chicken and salsa.
Get a bowl – This place is a regular stop for lunch. Everyone I've taken here wants to try the fish tacos first, and I have to tell them to get a bowl on their first trip - they'll be hooked! If they start with fish tacos, which are only so-so, they won't want to come back with me.
So public service announcement : the fish tacos are the wrong thing to order here. Banzai bowl! Banzai bowl!
Best fish tacos, Best price, Great service, Nice setting – I love this place because the "cajun beans" are really just spiced up "navy beans" and are not very cajun at all, which is fine with me. The rice is what has me hooked, its better than Chipotle's rice. The fish taco's are top notch, I like them charbroiled. They are served with plenty of lettuce/cabbage and tomatoes. Plenty of fish, and double wrapped corn tortillas. You cant lose for six bucks. Also the beer of the month is only $2, which is great especially when its Modelo month. haha
Healthy food and kid-friendly – First of all, a waiter met us at the door, and immediately got two CLEAN highchairs for us to use. We sat outside in the open-air room where it was breezy but sunny. There were many other families there but also some other groups without kids. It's a very casual place.
I thought the food was very healthy, plentiful, but not too heavy, especially in the summer. The Shrimp bowl was delicious, especially the green sauce that came with it. The kids loved their quesadilla plate, and the fish tacos were fresh and tasty. I'd definitely recommend it for families and non-families.
Not so great – The service is really good here, you walk up, order and you get your food promptly. They even have someone walking around that will you bring you anything you need and fill up your drink. Although, the food wasn't so good and there isn't much of an option. The cajun beans were not cajun like at all and the burrito was dry. I won't be heading back to this place....ever.
