SLO-O-O-W Service!. I've been to the Lamar location, and was pleasantly surprised by the vastly expanded menu selections at the Barton Springs location.

They offer Breakfast at lunch, which is a nice touch.

Server took forever to come take our drink order, food took forever. Server was slow to refill drinks (one reason the service may be so slow is that they don't seem to have pitchers). It was disconcerting to have more than one person's drink taken away & then brought back. Not sure if the fact we were on the patio was involved in the service issues.

Peanut soup was good & filling. "Award-winning" chicken soup was nothing special. Reasonable prices $30 for 3 lunches & 2 teas.

Pros: extra side, salad, cup of soup, etc. with burgers & sandwiches; toasted buns, crispy bacon, really nice selection of dishes with interesting combo's of ingredients on the menu, like bacon & avocado burger. Cons: road noise on the patio was loud, kinda hot in the sun, my companion said burger tasted like it had been frozen, parking garage was tight to navigate.

Bottom line: I'll give it another chance. But if they can't get me in and out in 45 mins - 1 hour, I won't be lunching at Java again.

good place for coffee. the lamar location has changed over the years, but it is still a decent place to go and the coffee selection is pretty good.

South Austin. 200 years to grow and one fell swoop from a blade wielded by AUSTIN JAVA. They are responsible for the desecration on Barton Springs. They are responsible for the greed in building those condos. They are experiencing a boycott from Austin and can't understand why. Let's all tell them why in the pocketbook by not eating at Austin Java, Uncle Billy's or Chuy's. Speak for the trees they cut down, for the long time south Austin residents they kicked to the curb and for greed. We will take back our city and way of life

Everything is great!!. We go here at lease once a week- everything is awesome!! We brings the dogs outside on the patio. Love the tortilla soup and peanut chicken sandwich- the tuna sandwich is a bit dry but other than that everything rocks.

where are the reviews?. there arent any reviews for this place b/c it doesnt need them. Overall it rocks. Good food (no, its not gourmet). I recommend the burgers. Coffee is awesome. Staff is friendly - and feel like they are a bit overworked. They are always nice. The only issue this place has is its effiency. You cant go in here for a quick cup of coffee to go - b/c they are just too slow in their order process. so forget it. wish they had more muffins, danishes, etc. I have been here a million times, take all my friends here when in town. its an austin establishment. the original austin java is on lamar and about 15th st. both are about equivalent.

Good breakfast, nice atmosphere, live music on some Sundays (brunch time). Went here during the week and enjoyed their french toast. Very reasonably priced (if not cheap) for 2 huge pieces for under $5. Walked past here a few times on Sunday and heard live music on the patio. Nice place. Cute and quirky inside and fun. Only down side is there are no servers. You order your self, they give you a number and they bring you the food. Kind of stinks not getting a coffee refill automatically! Not sure if it's the same on the weekends with larger crowds but it would have been nice.

Great food. The blackened tuna sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches hands down. There's plenty or seating and parking and it's great for people watching. I've also used their catering services for work and they did a fantastic job.

A laid-back Barton Springs joint that's known for its coffee, but also boasts local art, large entrees and homemade desserts.. In Short
Students and locals gather in small tables inside this wood-covered restaurant. Name appropriate, all Austin Java is home-roasted. Six air pots keep it fresh--three regular (from the Americas, Africa and the islands), one unflavored decaf and one flavored regular and decaf. Goodflow juices and wine are also available, as is the local artwork on the walls. Creative sandwiches, such as smoked turkey with cranberry chutney, bring in a steady lunch crowd.
