Editorial Review for Boomerang's – by Chip Rankin
In Short
Austin's connection to the land down under is a little stronger courtesy of Boomerang's introduction of this Australian dining staple. The small flaky crusted pies are stuffed with an assortment of ingredients, including the popular traditional beef, Southwestern adobe chicken and pepperoni pizza fillings. Students and adventuresome office workers carry their pies out or dine in the simple and inviting dining area, enclosed by forest green walls, wide plate glass windows and a polished concrete floor.

We went for lunch today. You order at the counter and that was fine. We were worried because the pies look kind of skimpy on the website. Turns out they are about the size and height of a Big Mac. We each got a different one; I got the Curry chicken, my friends got the Thai chicken and the Southwest chicken. My sister got the Steak and Mushroom, jokes about the all the guys eating chix but the girl gets the beef, hahaha. We all got a salad and drink and each got set back about $9. The salads were good and fresh and larger then I expected. We all enjoyed our pies and only the Thai pie was a little drippy. The best thing about them was the dough. The bread is light and fluffy but still firm enough to hold it since that is about the best way to eat these things. One bad thing about the dough is that it seemed really oily. Comparing notes we all agreed that the pies were "good" at best. When you get right down to it, they are kind of boring. You would think the Thai and the Curry would be spicy but they weren't, they were very bland. The most flavorful was the Steak and Mushroom and that isn't saying much. Reminds me of food I sometimes get when I go to conventions and the caterers have to please everyone instead of serving the best food.
Pros: something different for a change
Cons: really bland food

I went to Boomerang's today and was impressed by the food. Only problem that I had was that the waitress was totally useless. She didn't provide any recommendations or explaination for the different pies. Furthermore, she didn't help in getting boxes to go or utensils to go! All in all good food...poor service. For all the vegetarians out there, they have some really good veggie pies. My favorite is the Roasted Vegetable Pie.
Pros: Healthy and tasty food
Cons: Poor service! Unfriendly.
