Like Halloween and "Talk Like a Pirate Day," Opal D's is always reliably raucous for drinking holidays, and St. Patrick's is no exception. There are plenty of beers here if you want to get sloppy, but an equally abundant Scotch selection, courtesy of Ireland's UK neighbors.
Great family-friendly dining. There are three locations in Austin, but the Soco location is my favorite. Bring your kids, bring your dogs, bring your friends. The interior of Opal Divine's is cool and spacious; the outside deck is shaded and misted, making the picnic tables under the umbrellas a welcome seat even in this summer heat. The food menu is fresh, and as light or heavy as you please. All I have to say about the drink menu is WOW! It's extensive and seems to have any possible drink or draught you could ask for, including locally brewed beers, summer lemonade mixers, and even some girly beers to contrast the dark ales.
Terrible Saturday brunch service.
Went for Saturday brunch and was very disappointed with the service. We arrived at 2:40 for brunch which was supposed to end at 3pm. It didn't seem very busy AT ALL but we twiddled our thumbs waiting to give our food order until 2:55pm at which point the waitress told us that brunch was over and the computer wouldn't let her put in a brunch order. About 45 mins later, my friend's veggie burger with cheese arrived without cheese and with fries that tasted like they'd been sitting out for an hour. I chose not to order food because I wanted brunch. Then our waitress disappeared for a few hours. Upon return she offered to discount the burger 20% and got my friend a drink on the house. So that was nice at least. I however, was offered nothing, despite their poor service screwing me out of that damn omelette I was craving.
On the plus side, the Bloody Mary's were good.
Good beer selection, avoid going in groups. I enjoy Opals outdoor patio, beer selection, and some of their food. I would probably frequent the restaurant more often if it wasn't for one major issue. You see, Opals has yet to realize we are in the age of credit/debit cards. The servers claim that Opals has a "no separate check policy". Being that we usually go for happy hour after work, this becomes a problem come time to close out. One person always gets stuck trying to figure out how much each person owes. This is very stressful and turns an enjoyable, carefree night into a stressful mess. I've worked in the service industry in the past and realize it might be a pain for the waiter/waitress but it is definitely appreciated by the clientele. My co-workers and I (along with my fiances co-workers) choose not to go to Opals just to avoid this situation.
I love this place!. I've been going here since it opened and I just love it. The patio is gorgeous and the food is great for pub grub. Have the peppercorn fries for sure with ranch. So tasty. And the service can be slow at times, but the people serviing are very entertaining.
Great overlooking deck. Overpriced beer!. One of the best outside bars in south A. Absolutely overpriced beer selection! Would probably recommend for a happy hour or if you are entertaining.
nice deck, good fries, beer.... The deck outside is good in spring and fall. Nice atmosphere in S. Austin. Sometimes crowded, so go on slow nights earlier in the week. Have the fries with ranch/dill dressing on them. Yum. Good beer selection.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Like the popular Sixth Street spot, this Penn Field Park pub offers 36 beers and over 60 single-malt scotches.
