forget the negative reviews! props to the beauty bar!. this must have been warehouse district type that requests madonna, shakira and the like. the night this CLUELESS WOMAN speaks of is dj mel's SWOLL party. this party focuses on miami bass, baltimore club. house, club and anything fast. what i heard that night was something totally different from anything else downtown. where are you going to hear rod lee to bonde do role to daft punk to 2 live crew to miss kitten to adonis to peter, bjorn & john to some 80's era synth funk? it obvious the MELISA ALDANA IS CLUELESS ABOUT MUSIC. there's finally a bar that caters to the more forward thinking club goer. WANT TO MAKE REQUESTS ALL NIGHT? go to the warehouse district. that's where you obviously belong. PROPS TO THE BEAUTY BAR!!!
great ambience, music and people. Whenever I go downtown I somehow always end up at this bar. The music is just as good to listen to as it is to dance to, a good mix of hip hop, indie and 80s. If you dont have the typical 9-5 job to be at on thursday morning, wednesday nights at Beauty bar hosts dj brian tweedy who plays mostly motown hits. My only complaint is sometimes the bartenders are very slow possibly due to how crowded it gets. I think many of them were not bartenders before working at beauty bar. My only suggestion is to look for the brunette guy with a beard (jeremy i think?) or the cute reddish blonde short curly haired girl. They almost always get my drinks pretty fast and are very nice.
Hip Hop, What???. I took a big group of friends here last night, none of whom had ever been before. Much to my disappointment this was not the same bar I had been to a few months earlier. From the minute we walked in the only type of music played was hip hop. I requested a few songs from the DJ in hopes of listening to some decent music, but he didn't seem to have anything other than hip hop. I use to like this bar because it was different and you could hear good music. I don't know if managers realize this, but there are hundreds of bars in Austin that play hip hop, be original!!!!
Best dance club!!!!. This bar is soooo fun. They always have good music and I personally like going somewhere where very few sorority girls and frat boys dare to venture. Sure, you wait a while to get a drink, but I have never been treated rudely, the bartenders are always slammed but friendly, and the drinks are strong! Every cool bar in austin has attitude, side bar, jackelope, etc. just deal. The ambience is worth it and if you are smiling the bartenders will smile back. And to whatever "Attractive females" who wrote that other review, you seem high maintenance. Maybe Red River territory isn't your scene. I happen to know that asian guy and he's a really nice person. If you wanna go some where where you can dance like an "idiot" and not give a damn, this is definitely the place.
This Place is Nuts... I had a great time at this club. It has a crazy, weird aesthetic with glittery walls and neopolitan paint which took a minute to get used to, but I had a blast. It has this raucous, anyhting goes kinda vibe that has a lot of energy. The music was awesome the last time I was there for THE RUB dj's from nyc. The staff was really friendly even though they were as busy as they could posibly be, I never waited more than 5 minutes for a drink which seems to be different from what other reviewers have said, maybe they got better bartenders or something. I used to be a bartender and you cant expect immediate service when 3 people are serving for 250 people. If you like dancing to good music, this is the spot. If you like people watching, this is the spot. I have seen some really good rock bands playing there too. Its like a rock club but also has this awesome dj/dance scene going on. The only con I would say is the long line for the mens bathroom, which is a drag to wait for, but the place is always so packed that it is forgivable. The female bartenders and waitress are super cute and friendly which is always a bonus. A solid place to party.
Beauty Bar.
I do like this bar but it needs to be more consistent. I go here all the time and have been to several Beauty Bars and my only complaint would be to play the same type music on certain nights instead of switching it on the weekends. You never really know what type of music you will hear on a Saturday. It could be rock, hip hop, house, 80s.....I like this bar because it rarely used to play hip hop and now I hear hip hop there all the time. Every bar in Austin plays hip hop and the draw was that this bar didnt.
Also I know that asian guy as well and he is very nice.....Maybe you shouldnt judge a bar or bartender on a night that they are having a special event. The service at the beauty bar has improved quite a bit since they first opened.
Crappy service!. I was really excited about this bar when it first opened. It seemed like it would be different, hip, and fun. I'm a Side Bar regular, so I decided to make the long trek across the street to try it out. I was pretty disappointed with what I saw. The "scenesters" were dancing like idiots, and I was pretty embarrassed for them. When I finally made my way to the bar, I was really really let down by their service, or lack thereof. My friend and I stood at the bar for 20 minutes without the bartenders even acknowledging our presence. I'm an attractive female and I was there with my equally attractive female friend, and we're not used to getting crappy service from male bartenders. The asian looking bartender guy with the mullet-ish hairdo was the absolute worst! People all around us were getting service before us. We finally gave up and went back to old reliable, Side Bar. Never again.
Worst Bar Service Ever. So, you want to go somewhere to see and be seen, fine, this is your place. The DJ's are cool, the decor is cool but the bartenders are complete a**holes. Case in point, me and my friends go to the Bloc Party afterparty, and I sat AT the bar for 30 minutes. People were walking up to the left and right of me getting their orders filled pronto, while I silently waited to be served. I am not the kind of person to shout and harrass the bartenders. The dude bartender (the only one I believe) decided to ignore me regardless until a nice guy pointed out to him that I was actually there before everyone he was helping. And this is not the first time I've had to wait forever for a drink. The same happens when you try to close your tab. It's not worth hanging out here. Go to old favs like Jackalope and Side Bar.
Bouncer Gone.
Hi Timothy and other readers:
We appreciate your input and want to let you know that the bouncer that was verbally abusive to you and your friends is no longer working at the Beauty Bar. We hope you will come back and have a better experience at the bar.
