A shoulder-length cut, blow dry, and style at Birds will cost you $39; a short cut (for guys or girls) a mere $21. Seeing as how other salons will charge you the equivalent of a monthly car payment for the same services, Birds is clearly your best budgetary bet.

Birds is my go-to when I need a quick hair refresher at a good price. The cuts are super affordable, and all the stylists are very professional and on trend. Drink a lone star while you wait too! They don't take reservations, but just call ahead and they'll put you on a short waiting list.
Lousy salon. The haircut was okay, I got charged a lot more than my husband & he has a lot more hair. No one offered me a beer, (maybe it's only offered to men). My husband gets offered a beer there (we go seperately). Very product pushy, to the point of. "I really don't need this." Don't recommend if your a woman.
Great people, beer, and cuts. All I can say is good haircut, great experience, beer of choice, and even though I am married, the prettiest girls around. I give it two thumbs up!!
Awesome stylists and atmsphere. I walked into Bird's with horrible, scraggly. frizzy, gross, wicked witch hair and walked out with the best haircut ever! I didn't even call ahead and was in Lindsey's chair in about ten minutes. I wasn't exactly sure what kind of cut I wanted, but had a vague idea. She gave me the guidance I needed and was very helpful. Before this, I hadn't had my hair professionally cut in like, 2 years because of bad experiences at other salons. I had such a good experience there, now I want to get my hair cut everyday! My husband had had his hair cut there twice before and I loved it so that's what gave me the nerve to go in the first place. I'm so glad that I did! Hooray Bird's!
you need to really know what you want. I loved the environment, people were great, the music, the location (north)... however I went there for hair cut... a stylish one, and I got something terrible... I can't wait till it grows again to fix it.... . I was seen by a lady that did not have any advice for me... I asked her what would look good on my type of face, and she kept on saying - that is ok, do you want this?, do you want that? I wanted her expert advise and she did not have anything to tell me.. so I tried to explain what I wanted, she did not get it and cut my hair in a very weird style. I needed assertiveness and I think she ken less than me. I don't recommend it to anybody unless you want to have free beer and spend a good time... don't let them touch your hair unless you have a very good detailed explanation of what you want... don't let t them try their little creativeness with you
Much like Fast Freddy's, but gentrified.... For thrice the price, you get about the same quality as a less-hip joint down the street -plus a free can of cheap beer and some trendier mags for your last-minute hair ideas. Like the other low-end chains, it really depends on who you get. If you know of someone good, you'll likely be happy. If you just walk in at the mercy of fate, you're really taking your chances an a not-so-great cut. I've been twice: one stylist was talented, the other made me never want to go back.
Neat Place for a Haircut!. I went yesterday with my boyfriend for him to get a haircut. It was quite busy when we got there, so were not surprised at the 40 min wait. The place seems really neat and relaxed. I will say,we did wait longer than the 40 mins we were advised. At one point while there were chairs full of people the stylist took smoke breaks and even just stood around talked to one another. Once he finally got his turn for his cut, he showed the guy a picture of what he wanted. The stylist was very honest and realistic about being able to do that cut on his hair. After he was done, he gave my man a great hair cut that was very trendy and user friendly. I advised him to keep going, but to call ahead to put his name on the list.
Appointments are "too establishment" at this walk-in hair salon on South Lamar, offering hip styles, cuts, colors and Mohawks..
In Short
Birds blends hair grooming essentials with a friendly Austin riff. The casual and high-ceilinged black and white room is offset by large murals and filled with an eclectic mix of popular rock and alternative tunes. Aspiring rock stars and resigned 9-to-5ers, comprised of both men and women, get low-cost, but stylish cuts. A stage, a DJ booth and an 80's arcade provide distraction while you wait.
Great Haircut!. Monique razor cut my hair. I am so happy with it. It was exactly what I wanted. I will continue going to her for my hair.
Good Folks with Great Strokes. I've gone into Birds not only to support our local buisness', the great atmosphere, people and music, the beer (of coarse), location and overall satisfaction, many times, but can say I've had the best experiance so far last week, and thought I got EVEN MORE for my money- thanks to Linda...we'll be seeing you soon and are reccommending you highly!
Avoid Saturdays. the only time i have to get my haircut is on the weekend and for two weekends in a row i went to birds and there was a 400 hour wait. finally i came in during a weekday (night actually) and it took like 5 minutes to get in a chair. the girl was hot too. so i'm happy now and pro-birds again. i hate lone star though, but whatever.
