Austin >Rise and Shine Bakery
I've worked here for 3+ years and can't even begin to tell anyone how awesome this place is. Michelle, the owner, is incredibly focused on quality and is always looking for new and better products (for example, we recently made the switch to all-organic farm fresh eggs.) No one else in town matches her decorating skills; her custom cakes are absolutely gorgeous. And, I hear, so are the ladies that work behind the counter ;)
Great for Birthday Cakes!.
I order a three layered/round cake for a friend's birthday last spring (over the phone after reading reviews and making a few other calls). The order was placed just the day before it was needed and it turned out great! This was my first time ordering a custom cake and was not sure what I wanted or what to expect, though the staff was helpful and I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout. I would use Rise & Shine Bakery again (despite the location being out of my way).
Pros: helpful staff, yummy cake
Cons: pricey, location
(republished review from 2008)
Can you say, Starbucks instead?. I am sorry to say I am very unpleased with the product from this bakery, I would rather give my business and hard earned money to a reliable location.
HAIR in my birthday cake!.
It's really hit or miss at this place. I've gotten kolaches with no filling. Good thing I ate it there because the girl behind the counter didn't believe me until I showed her. She cut open several others & there was no filling in them either.
My birthday cake had white sugar stuff that they call frosting. It melted off the cake at room temperature. THey put my "Happy Birthday" writing in small black frosting. BLACK frosting for my birthday! The cake was so wrong in so many ways. Decorations were wrong colors too. MY PIECE HAD A HAIR IN IT. So no one would eat it & we ended up throwing the $30+ 6" cake away.
I AM NEVER going there again. Horrible gloppy white frosting mess with hair in the cake!
I am sorry you had so many issues with your cake & wish you would have given us a chance to make it right. I always welcome feedback and am quite disappointed in this review.
If 'the cake was so wrong is so many ways' I don't understand why you didn't bring the cake in for a full refund.
Awesome neighborhood bakery!!!. This place makes the best kolaches ever!!! They are so great, that I had them put some (in frosting, of course) on my son's birthday cake! BTW Michelle, it was a huge hit...thx for making this for him on such short notice! He loved it!I love waving to the guy on 2222 in the morning! I just wish y'all had a drive through! Your staff are always friendly and wonderful! I guess a downside would be that you are located a couple doors down from my dentist, and I'm always tempted to come in a grab something sinful! You are awesome!!!
never disappointed. My wife and I were never disappointed by the quality or prices at Rise & Shine... and I certainly don't understand the vitriol in some of these reviews. We ordered a large batch of cupcakes for a party and the guests LOVED them. The staff has always been friendly and professional. Don't take the negative reviews here too seriously - if you want to know what people really think of Rise & Shine just look at the line on a Saturday morning.
Very disappointed. Being a former professional artisan bread baker I was excited to have a bakery so close to where I live. We had just moved into town so I did not have the time to bake my daughter's birthday cupcakes myself. While nicely decorated, the cupcakes tasted old and dry. I hate to say this, but the cupcakes I recently tasted from a local grocery chain were better and probably cheaper.
Excellent Food and Wonderful Service. R&S is a wonderful bakery with really excellent food and a super friendly staff. Their kolachies are out of this word, as well as their sweet pastries, and their migas is better than you will find at most mexican restraunts. To top this off it is locally owned and operated! Thank you for an amazing experience!
worst bakery in austin. I can not believe people liked the food at this bakery. I mean, it is pretty simple to make baked goods. But what a waste of money! I am not too picky, but nothing I bought was worth going back for. I am glad there are a lot of good bakeries to choose from and this is not one of them. This was like school cafeteria food.
My favorite bakery. Everything is delicious and a great atmosphere with friendly staff. I try to make it there at least once a week for a treat or two ...
