The burgers never disappoint. Neither do the sweet potato fries, corn dogs or tater tots. Dessert at Amy's is always a must.
One of the best burger places in Austin next to one of the best Ice Cream shops, Amy's. Get the 78704 burger with mixed fries (sweet potato and regular spuds).
Best burger in town hands down!. I had the "78704" burger and it was incredible! The toasted jalapeno cheese bun was awesome and the sweet potato fries are "to die for!
Great burgers, fries, onion rings, atmosphere.... Love the generous basket of onion rings, yum. My fav burger is the Rosedale-bbq sauce, cheddar...like the sweet potato fries mixed in with the regular fries. Great comfortable atmosphere. Watched a basketball game inside while the feel was that of outside with the big garage doors up and opened. Feels like having burgers at a party with lots of friends all around.
Delicious gourmet burgers.
Phil's has terrific burgers and great sweet potato fries. Reasonably priced, it is very family friendly if that's what you need, but also good for couples without kids, or anyone, for that matter.
Phil's is also built next to Amy's Ice Cream, and just down the block from the Burnet Rd. Hey Cupcake! if you crave some fun dessert afterward!
Highly recommended!
With a kid-friendly patio and a location next to Amy's Ice Cream, this Allandale burger spot is a top family pick.. There's always a crowd at this friendly neighborhood burger joint owned by the folks behind Amy's Ice Cream. With plenty of Amy's-themed play space outside, low, kid-friendly tables on the patio and a delicious menu of burgers and fries, this eatery is a family-friendly local favorite. Diners sample one of the eight tasty burgers named after Austin neighborhoods, like the Allandale cheeseburger, Crestview with chili and cheddar cheese, or elect to build their own. Chicken or veggie patties can be swapped for the meat, and fries are a mix of regular and sweet potato.
Hands down best burger in town.
The burgers are fantastic - they have 10 or so types to choose from and mini versions too boot. Next to Amy's Ice cream but you won't need it if you try one of their delicious shakes. Love the fried, onion rings - the food is just awesome.
Note - packed with families so if little ones drive you nuts wait for an off hour to go.
Simple and perfect, embarasses every other burger place in town.
The buns are delicious!
I've discovered the Hamburger Mecca!!.
What can I say about Phil's? It's hands down the best Hamburger I've EVER eaten in my life! I just couldn't believe how good it was. The bun was some variation on sourdough which actually tasted more like those Hawaiin rolls than anytyhing else. Patty was juicy and cooked to perfection and the toppings were incredible. It was just a great overall burger.
As for ambience, the place is a converted Garage which gives it a nice bump in the character column but hurts when trying to avoid that unbelievable Austin heat. Fries, Onion straws, and Sweet Potato Fries are side options and all are good. Beyond that you've got soft drinks and bottled/tap beers to round out the menu.
If I have anything negative to say about the place, it's that I would have pumped up the specialty burger menu. It's good that I can craft my own sandwich, but it's also nice to have those perfectly measured combos set aside for me. For instance- thae burger I ate had a spicy chipotle sauce, jalapenos, and bacon.. which all seem liek they'd work well together, but then they threw in ham too! Ham sounds like an utter clash for that sandwich, but it worked and actually made my burger stellar. Add a few more of those and I'd never leave the place!
Family FUN!. This is the venue Austin has needed for a long time. A small and safe place to eat and play with your children. After running the gauntlet at Central Market, downtown Whole Foods, Freddy's Backyard . . . Amy wins hands down. The burgers at Phil's are fresh and delicious . . . the bottleneck at the self-serve soda fountain could be better. This place gets really busy, so the staff might want to consider having someone in the dining area to bus and clean tables, but really the staff is friendly and the food is a great value for the price! Yea!!
