With a more spiritual approach than most Austin yoga studios, Dharma Yoga offers sweet release in the middle of bustling West Campus. Sunday morning Vinyasa will appeal to the more cardio-minded yogi, while twice-a-week Dharma Restorative classes guide practitioners to deep inner serenity.
Rooted in yogic and Buddhist
philosophy, Dharma is one of the few studios in Austin that actually focuses on the inner journey rather than achieving acrobatic poses. Every teacher I've had truly cares about each student's well-being and development . In response to the partner yoga, it never lasts half an hour (maybe 5-10 minutes unless it's part of the class theme) and not every teacher uses partner yoga.
Our culture is so physically repressed and it's interesting to explore our reaction to touching one another. I've found that the practice really increases my awareness of and ability to be compassionate towards others, especially strangers.
(btw, the studio has moved to 3110 Guadalupe)
Partner Yoga IS NOT for everyone. There is one main thing that they don't tell you on the website..Be prepared to be in partners for 30min every class .You will be rubbing up against sweaty strangers, having them massage you and just hanging all over each other in general. I brought a friend with me who is married and she was mortified when she was partnered up with a man to give him a massage and vice versa. We wanted a workout not a pseudo sensuality course. Blah, we both were so grossed out. I'm liberal but come on! I don't want to be touching sweating strangers for 30 min. multiple times a week. If this is something that you're comfortable with than I say go ahead...it is a good workout.
my new yoga home. Dharma is my favorite place to practice in town, period. Away from the strip malls and the gyms , I can count on a serene environment and excellent teachers that support REAL yogic exploration. The teachers are knowledgeable and smart but accessable, too - same with the other students - just a great welcoming group no matter what you know or don't know about yoga.
best yoga in the city!. Want a truly glorious yoga experience? Then drive to this blissful yoga center in Hyde Park and roll out your mat. The vinyasa classes are both physically challenging and spiritually uplifting. Great music (the teacher played Nick Drake during savasana!) and a beautiful, candlelit atmosphere. Can't recommend Dharma Yoga enough!
wonderful yoga studio!. I have tried YogaYoga and other studios in town and Dharma Yoga is the first that felt genuinely spiritual. The teachers know the students and definitely care about the depth and nuances of the practice. A beautiful experience for body and soul!
lovely and inviting yoga and meditation studio!. This studio offers a warm and cozy sanctuary with yoga teachers who know how to inspire your heart and push your body. A real gem! Check out the Monday morning Hatha class or the Friday morning Vinyasa. Perhaps the best yoga studio in town.
