In Short – Barbers and hairstylists groom, shave and polish well-to-do businessmen and social gents. Each member is trimmed in plush, private rooms, adorned with old-school barber chairs and flat-screen TVs. Before and after appointments, members kick back in the well-appointed bar and lounge, sipping on cocktails and other libations. Members not trading stories about local goings-on can partake in a game of cards or watch one of the eight TVs.
Worth Every Penny

I have been a member of El Rey for over two years and have never been introduced to another club in Austin that can compete. El Rey provides an exclusive atmosphere with five star services that promote good health, hygiene and relaxation. The owner of El Rey is very civic minded and continually supports great programs throughout Austin such as the First Tee and The Austin Sunshine Camps. If you enjoy being involved with a private club that fosters great business networking, civic minded activities and fantastic personal health than El Rey should be at the top of your list.

El Rey - Elegance and Indulgence at its best
by cavemagisterimperitus
I just read the review of El Rey posted as "not so great", and am amazed at the negativity by our 'angry' reviewer. I have been lucky enough to have experienced many spas around the world and expected a lot from El Rey. I was NOT disappointed in ANY of my expectations. Here is what I wanted ...
1) Exclusivity - Our reviewer claims that he visited 'on a whim', but this is not a 'walk-in on a whim' establishment, as membership or a "day membership" is required. The 'rich socialite jabber' is so far from the truth to be laughable, as all the members I have met have been friendly and genuinely fun. If you just want to chat about whether the last American Idol voted off was too good, perhaps El Rey is NOT for you!
2) Ambience - I did NOT want the traditional Day Spa where one is surrounded by witless chatter, I wanted a place where one could seek sanctuary from the mad-rush world we inhabit. A place of privacy and peace where for a few brief hours a week, one could indulge oneself in male oriented therapies. I would counter that what most sophisticated males seek is just that ...'uneventful surroundings'. This is NOT a 'day spa', this is a private club for sophisticated individuals who want much more than ' a place to get a massage'. If you let your 'wife talk you out of it', and consider that 'a coed spa in North Austin' is even on a par with El Rey, then perhaps El Rey is better off without your patronage!
3) Quality Service - 'The service girls were nice'! How damning in its praise is that? The staff are courteous, professional and perfectly skilled at the services they provideand I have seldom found their equal service in any of the more famous spas.
So let me say that IF you have the opportunity to have a treatment at El Rey, then grab that opportunity. IF you appreciate the type of elegant club environment it provide then LEAP at the chance and come and join El Rey.
If not, then go join a coed spa in North Austin!
- Pros: Ambience and timeless elegance
not so great

I went to EL REY on a whim and was caught off guard by how lousy the service was. Although the service girls were nice, the valet parking was prompt and the bartending was definitely up to par, I plain just didn't enjoy the experience. It's not that the atmosphere wasn't somewhat pleasant, I just found myself bored sometimes by the terribly uneventful surroundings and the rich Austin socialite jabber. I was going to become a member but luckily, my wife talked me out of it. We're looking in to joining a coed spa in North Austin... 14 plasma T.V.s doesn't make a good spa. I am angry.
