ok preparation, bad ingredients. I had the pad thai with beef. It was ok. Noodles were al dente (good), but beef was very tough and tasted a little off.

My fiance had Teriyaki stir-fry with Salmon. Sauce was ok (again, prep work was pretty good), but the Salmon was HORRIBLE. It was clearly not fresh (probably frozen, and possiblly freeze-dried since it had the texture of jerky).

Best Thai in Austin. I have been coming to Chon Som since it opened 4 years ago. Pure goodness. Love the Sushi and the Pad Thai is great!

Get some Chon Som !!. We are so lucky to have this great place to eat and have a cold beer in our area. The owners are the most down to earth friendly couple. They treat you like you came to their house to have dinner. If you get on their email list they send you amazing specials. Sushi is yummy.

Plain bad. Calamari with thai spicy sauce: The calamari were wrapped in batter puffs. They were rubbery (sign of prolonged freezing) and the crust was greasy. Sauce was good

Steamed mussels: edible.

Pineapple fride rice with shrimps. It lacked the punch that thai food typically has. By the taste shrimps were very close to decomposing and after having one we discarded the rest.

Great Food, Great Fun.... Chom Som rocks!. Chon Som is a great place for lunch and dinner. The staff is courteous and informative. The food is the best Thai and Sushi I've ever had!

GREAT THAI LUNCH SPOT. They offer the same great food for lunch but with a smaller portion and great add-ons like sushi on the side or eggrolls. The cuizine fills you up with weighing you down.

Not your typical Asian decor either. Walls are donned with modern art for sale while techno beats its way accross the restaurant. Austinites should feel quite at home in this place.

The "curry of the day" is awesome. Can't write enough great things about the place.

The freshly made ginger soy dressing is very refreshing during Austin's hot summers.

Go and enjoy-it's fantabulous!. I have never had a bad meal here! I think the Spicy Cashew is my favorite, but I also love the Pad Thai and Pad Wonsoon. The crabcake is by far the freshest, best I've ever eaten. It's not greasy in anyway. Nice & crisp on the outside, fresh light and lfuffy on the inside.

Desserts are great, too.

The lunch and Happy Hour specials are a real bargain-I just wish I worked closer so I could go for lunch!

Go for everything. Consistently great fish quality. The chef really knows what he is doing and always has served great cuts and variety.

The curries are authentic and are prepared to your heat tolerance. They go great with cold beer!

AWESOME PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!. We have been coming here for quite some time. the owners are great!!! Food is VERY VERY VERY Good!!!

Just an overall great place to go. Everyone we have brought to the restaurant enjoys it as much as we do. must have the plumalicious sake drink :)

great food...great staff...and even open on christmas and new years eve. where do i start? what an amazing restaurant! great food at excellent prices. the staff is wonderful. you will see two of the owners there at all times creating amazing thai and sushi dishes. and speaking of sushi, you must try the dynamite shrimp. its to die for, if not want to sell the kids to get at least one more! the waitstaff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and will help you pick the perfect meal if you arent sure what you are wanting that evening. great lunch menu. great happy hour specials every day.

and from what i was told by the staff, they will be open both christmas and new years eve!
