Frustrating Experience.
We needed someone to install a baby (doggie) gate and do some minor repairs before we left on vacation. I mistakenly believed that hiring Mr. Handyman would be the "safest" thing to do and I thought I was prepared for the expense of going that route.
The man who came to the house was very nice and polite but he was completely incompetent. It took him 45 minutes to read the instructions and then more than 2 hours to actually hang the gate. It was a complete disaster, leaving holes in the walls and banister (some he repaired/filled). The gate opened out, knocking you off the landing when you opened it, it was not level, and it was installed on the outside of the step.
After charging us $266, he said that he was available to come back out the following day to re-install it (for the standard hourly rate) and finish our list of repairs. We declined. My 17 year old son came to the rescue and installed it correctly - in about 45 minutes, including reading the instructions...though, that cost me almost as much as Mr. Handyman :-)
It was quite a frustrating experience and I was truly disappointed that we never received follow up communication inquiring about our satisfaction with the service.
I recommend completely avoiding Mr. Handyman South Austin/Lakeway and looking anywhere else for handyman services.
