Great Place for Rings!. I work in a jewelry store, and let me tell you, Maya is not as over-priced as most places around Austin. They have beautiful chunky rings made of turquoise, moonstone, onyx, and many other semi precious stones. One of the most expensive rings I saw in the store was $70 - that is really not bad, especially considering that all of their rings are shipped to their store from India. The price of gold and silver is always increasing. At the store where I work (a very well known and popular jewelry store... I'll keep it anonymous) you can't get a silver ring with a stone in it for less than $75, and that is for an extremely thin silver band with a very tiny stone, made right here in Texas (less money spent on shipping merchandise should mean cheaper prices, right?). I'm a fan of Maya!
Much like walking into wonderland..... As someone new to Austin and the South Congress shopping area I was so excited when I entered Maya Star! I knew instantly it would be one of my favorite shopping stops in town. The owner has such a unique eye! Upon entering your eyes immediately meet a fifteen foot iron tree with colorful glass orbs covering it. The store itself is a perfect mixture of BEAUTIFUL jewelry from around the world, fun party dresses, and an unbelievable variety of gifts. You can literally spend an hour in the store and not see everything. I think what really makes this place special, though, are the girls that work there. They are knowledgeable, helpful, sweet, and their uniqueness only adds to the charm of the store. If you live here or are just visiting, Maya Star is a must-see!
Not worth it, like money down the drain... Not impressed. The jewelry there is cheaply made and VERY overpriced for what it is. Have you ever heard of solid gold? The clothes are cute at first look, but they are way too trendy and you can't wear them past the current season. Also the staff is a bit rude, and very smug even though they look like they have no style themselves. Basically the store is a Monet, from far away- nice -but up close, big ,old mess.
Best clothes and jewelry on South Congress. I love Maya! The clothes and jewelry are so feminine and lovely, it is my new favorite! I get more compliments when I wear Maya then anything else. Also, the staff is so friendly and helpful. Prices are a great range, check it out!
This funky little boutique filled with gifts and furniture adds a splash of color to the hip SoCo shopping strip..
In Short
A simple facade and plain interior color palette help the boldly hued merchandise of Mayastar successfully lure in window shoppers. Hanging glass orbs in a rainbow of colors, unique handmade jewelry and fun lighting options decorate the charming space. Massive ornate shelves imported from India house one-of-a-kind textiles, bright candles and other funky home accessories. Larger pieces, like sheesham wood tables, leather dining chairs and a sectional, are scattered throughout.
