Well put together dishes and fantastic drinks in an beautiful outdoor patio setting attached to a historic house.
Paggi House appeals to the ritzier, West Austin or downtown condo-dwelling demographic, but if you're a scrappy east sider or college student, keep this one in mind for a Parent Visit. The front deck really is gorgeous, and housed in a historic former home that predates the Civil War, its history, Continental menu and lake views will have Mom and Dad squealing.
Pretty darn good! – I had the pecan crusted lamb , and it was very tasty....only complaint is that there wasn't a broad selection of wines by the glass to better pair with it. I will return!
Excellent Patio - Wonderful Brunch – I am so excited we are about to live right across the lake from this place.
We had brunch there for the first time Sunday and absolutely loved it. While it's $25/person, they food choices are excellent for a brunch with both a buffet and unlimited ordering off a set menu with several kinds of eggs, chicken and waffles, omelets, etc. Mimosa's are only a $1, so you won't run up your bill with alcohol. My husband can really get his money's worth on an all-you-can eat so the price didn't bother us.
The patio is amazing, I will definitely make it over for a happy hour or two. To top it off, they are on "Restaurants-dot-com" (Yelp won't let me use the traditional version of spelling for that) - so you can get great coupons.
Amazing Brunch – We enjoyed the multi-course brunch on the beautiful deck on a nice day. The chef could not have better executed the chicken & waffles: fried chicken, belgian waffles and buttery syrup. It's one of those dishes that you will undoubtedly find yourself craving every once in a while. I make it a point to tell any newcomer or visitor to Austin to go check out what Paggi has to offer.
Nice ambience, decen food, not every nice owner – The food at Paggi is pretty good and the paito is very beautiful. We like the patio so much that we want to hold our wedding there. As we talked to the owner, the price she wanted was more than many major wedding venues around town, just to hold half of the house for a private dinner. We were stunned by the price but still interested. However, she became rude and stopped replying our email so we turnes elsewhere. Recetly we went back for the sunday brunch. The food was pre-made and they just heated it up. For the price they charge, I feel that they could afford making some of the dishes fresh. Combining with our interaction wih the owner earlier, it just feels like the restaurant owner cares more about making money than the customers. It is really too bad that their restaurant is the nicest looking one in town.
Mother's Day Brunch - Good food, Service lacking. – Had reservations for Mother's Day brunch. Beautiful day, beautiful place. First time dining there. Great menu. Brunch took three hours. I knew someone with reservations as well had to be waiting on our table. We saw three different servers and never knew which one was ours. Drink orders were taken and brought out at different times. Second (main) course took forever. I figured a brunch with a set menu would be easy to get out hot and fast but it just wasn't the case. Little things we asked for like splenda, salt and ketchup and and extra fork were asked for but forgotten. Our water glasses were empty. We rarely saw a server. It was just odd. I'm going to chalk it up to a bad day, bad server. We will try again.

Sheltered by tall trees and featuring a view of the downtown skyline, the original structure of the 1840's Michael Paggi house celebrates the modern era with elegant additions and Mediterranean-style landscaping. Lounge seating areas share space with marble bistro tables on the front deck, while inside an intimate dining room honors the original structure. The New American menu features creative surf and turf options, local ingredients and starters worthy of return visits including a fork-tender, soy-braised pork belly, seven-selection cheese plates and tuna tartar with ponzu aioli. Though seasonal offerings change regularly, pine-nut crusted rack of lamb with parsnip puree, potato-crusted wild salmon with spinach and buttery sea scallops with foie gras mashed potatoes establish Executive Chef Shane Stark's culinary skills.
First experience at Paggi House was A+; I will return. – I learned that Paggi House is one of the oldest buildings in Austin and it has quite a history. A good friend suggested I have dinner there while in town on business. Now that I've dined there, I think it will make history again soon. The cuisine, wine, atmosphere and service were A+. I was surprised to learn the restaurant had only been open two weeks.
If you are on a tight budget, get the cheese plate appetizer, a glass of pinot noir and a salad, or the fish dishes looked very nice if you have a bigger appetite. Dine at the BAR; very cool room.
I compare Paggi House to some of my favorite restaurants in Dallas like Abacus, Suze and Hibiscus. But an equal-to, but better environment. Check it out!

This is Austins new – I had stepped into the Paggi House to take a peak last week and that was all it took to know that this was my new hang out spot. I could not wait to take my friend Loren here because I knew he would love the decor and because he became a fan of the chef, Shane Stark, at Keniche. He was blown away as soon as we drove up he said cooool place, and we have both been everywhere. We took a quick tour then settled for a bottle of prosecco at the back bar. The contemporary architectural elements surrounding the second oldest building in Austin were eye catching and I can't wait to go when it rains to see how the rain water gathering contraption drains into the original well. So onto the food and service. I am one of those difficult customers because I have been in the business for 20 years and was a cook in New Orleans for places I still consider to be the best restaurants in the world. I ate at Bottecelli's last week and ordered a glass of wine, some more water and a different waiter. So I can be mean. We ordered both of the steaks on the menu, both cooked perfectly, and the the quail and frissee app. All were delicious. Our prosecco, and wine choices were great. The only items I felt were lacking were the desserts. But because I am so aesthetically driven, the food could have been horrible, the server could have spilled something on me and it would still be my new place. I can't wait to go back and sit around the huge outdoor porch with a bunch of friends sipping on some delicious beverage and working my way through every menu item. Good job guys!!!!
Beautiful atmosphere!! – I've been to Paggi twice since they reopened and it's better than ever. The outside setting is one of the best patios in Austin. The inside is beautiful as well, but the back bar area is very classy and the drinks are great. I had dinner there both times and both servers were very professional and knew the menus/wines very, very well. Dinners were fantastic. Try the cheese plate to start with. Yum. I highly recommend this place.
Dynamite Dining Experience – I was recently invited to the reopening of the Paggi House. I've understood this restaurant to be an Austin Landmark, but have never had the pleasure of going, until recently.
In a word: Magical! If you are looking to spoil someone you care about, then this is the dining destination. You will enjoy delectable dishes made by passionate chefs, pastry and cheese artisans; an atmosphere that is warm and inviting through varied textures of stone, concrete, granite, wood grains, marble, leather, outdoor landscaping, linens, candles, flowers and subtle lighting; a wide selection of wine & liquor; and dynamite service from all those that become part of your dining experience.
It is clear that this group of restauranteurs care about your dining experience, are passionate about what they do, and define it clearly at the Paggi House.
