Funky food. [This is regarding the new south Austin location] My wife was familiar with Village Inn from Iowa, where she used to eat semi-regularly. From learning that one was being built near our house, we were getting very excited about getting to eat there. We finally went for breakfast and were very disappointed. Wy wife got the Santa Fe skillet, which she found to be bland and unattractive (due to a certain sauce I will get to later). The skillet promised black olives, of which there was only one slice of on the whole skillet. I had the breakfast burrito, which was OK. The tortilla was grilled, which was a nice touch, but the eggs in it were greasy and seemed reconstituted. The iceberg lettuce on the side was funky, even for iceberg lettuce. The worst part of the whole deal was the sauce on top of both dishes, which was a very unattractive brown sauce with odd brown (meat?) chunks in it. The restaurant seemed understaffed, as there was only one person to both seat people and accept payments, leaving lots of people standing around waiting in the entry area.
