Austin >Steak and Shake
Gross...unless you like eating someone's hair.. After going to Cracker Barrel (too crowded), IHOP (too crowded, and Village Inn (closed down), we decided to have breakfast at Steak 'n' Shake. We got seated quick enough, folks were friendly enough, and the place looked clean enough. There wasn't much of a crowd for a Sunday morning, so you'd think the service would be faster than it was. But it was hot, so that's OK. What isn't OK is finding a long, black hair in your mean, half-way through eating it. Needless to say, the manager didn't make us pay. And, also needless to say, we won't be going back.
Yum-o.... I had a great experience at Steak and Shake. Our food came out super quick, our server was pleasant and keep our drinks filled. Also, the food was great. I had the frisco melt and it was Yum-O. The strawberry milkshake was nice and thick. I can't wait for my next burger there.
Steak 'N Shake, Austin, TX. My friend and I like to try new restaurants, so we drove from far northwest Austin to try out the new Steak 'N Shake. The restaurant was like a '50's burger joint, really cute inside. Our waiter was friendly and suggested that we order the double burger because the meat patties were really thin, so we took his suggestion and also ordered fries and shakes. He brought the shakes , but it was a while before we got our burgers and fries. When he brought the burgers, there was no lettuce on the plate, so we asked for lettuce. He proceeded to tell us that they were OUT of lettuce. We commented that we should have been told that when we ordered. The burgers were tasty, but the meat was very thin. The shakes and fries were good, but I wouldn't say that they were outstanding. Also, we thought the prices were high for what we got. When we went to pay, we told the cashier that we were not pleased because of the lettuce incident and he had no comment except that he was sorry. We suggested that they send someone to the grocery store for some lettuce, since they were a 24 hour restaurant and probably wouldn't get a delivery before the next day! I have worked in the food service industry and when we were out of something, we sent someone to the store to get it! This is the first time I have made a comment on a restaurant, but I would rather go to Whataburger or Fuddrucker's for the quality and price! I would probably rate it a 4. SP
Inferior burger, fries, chili , service, and atmosphere. Okay shakes..
With all the hype, I was expecting a great burger. My midwestern friend's delusional review must have sprung from childhood nostalgia....Or possibly there's something in the genetically mutated corn of the midwest that destroyed his tastebuds. Imagine Wendy's, but the food isn't as good, the dining area is much more crowded, your seat shakes ever time someone on your crowded row gets up, the meal is twice as expensive, the serviced is slow, and on top of all this you get to pay a tip. There are so many better burger joints in town where you get at least three of the following--better food, better price, better atmosphere, better service: BurgerTex, Dan's, Fran's, Fudrucker's, Hilbert's, Sandy's, EZ's, Sonic, and Culver's on down to Wendy's, Jack in the Box, and Burger King. Their much-vaunted shake is good, but nothing you can't get other places. They had more selections on the menu that I didn't try, but I can't imagine these are much good since their signature burger is such a let-down.
If you're going to harden your arteries with a burger and fries, at least make it count, and go somewhere with good food.
1950s diner fries up fast-food classics 24 hours a day..
Entering the clean, bright interior is like stepping into an "Archie" comic book. Hurrying across white- and black-checkered floors, staff in crisp white shirts and paper hats take orders, polish chrome and shuffle between booths and the full-service counter. Middle-American diner standards dominate the menu--pickle-covered steak burgers, chili cheeseburgers and thick shakes. Healthier options include chicken, chef and taco salads.
