Editorial Review for Flip Happy Crepes – by Citysearch Editors

Tucked away in the parking lot behind Floribunda Nursery, this crepe stand is housed in a silvery vintage trailer. It's easy to believe the slogan "Made From Scratch With Love" when cradling these foil-wrapped, delectably soft treats that ooze with anything from roasted chicken, caramelized onions and goat cheese to Nutella and bananas. Seating is limited to a few lawn chairs and tables, but the late-risers and workaday types who frequent know to grab a perch anywhere or get it to go.

Hit up the ATM first, as Flip Happy only takes cash.

Save Money

But don't fret. Savory crepes will set you back only a little more than a fiver, and the sweet ones are even cheaper.

Parking

The lot only fits a handful of cars. You'll need to look for a spot on a nearby curb.

The Extras

At peak times, the wait can be well more than an hour.

We & many of our friends absolutely love the food at this place- the crepes are amazing & the people are/were friendly. We sometimes ate there & sometimes called in orders to take home. However, both options are no longer feasible, especially in the summertime. Once the buzz got out about Flip Happy(there were a few great articles & t.v. shows that covered them), the lines are simply too long & their space & staffing are inefficient and unable to deal with the volume. The customers & staff are no longer as friendly b/c by the time you place and actually get your order, you are ready to chew off your arm from hunger. If you have 1+ hours to wait, then by all means go(but have a snack first & bring plenty of water & your own chairs), but the novelty quickly wears off after only 1 visit, with the heat & crabby hungry customers. Forget about phoning in an order b/c most times they are too busy to pick up the phone, & if you do place a phone order, you still have to wait in the long line (and your crepes are cold). There are a few things the Flip Happy owners could do to mitigate the problems, but so far continue to maintained the status quo. They could add another trailer or another location, have a take-out only line, have longer hours (you shouldn't have to think too hard about whether a place is open or not). Our solution until they get their act together- we learned how to make our own wonderful crepes- just as good & cheaper. Five stars for the crepes, 1 or 2 stars for the wait & their unwillingness to fix the problems.

Pros: Scrumptous crepes, usually friendly service

Cons: Ridiculously long wait, limited hours/days, parking

WOW! Absolutely amazing crepes. But rather than comment on these delectable delights... I'd just like to offer some suggestions for those of you who want to try this out. Going to Flip Happy is an experience in itself. If you don't have time, then don't go. Save it for another day so that you can really enjoy it. IF you're rushed, this place is just not going to work. Here are a few ways that my family and friends have found to get the most out of it. First of all, you can call ahead and place your order. You'll still have to wait in the 'order' line, but once you get up there, you simply pay for your order and they hand you your bag of goods. Secondly..... it's true, parking can be a bit of a bear but somehow we always luck out. People come and go and if you can just relax and be patient, you will find your spot. Another suggestion, throw a couple of fold up chairs in your trunk. Seating is limited and you won't have to worry about it if you bring your own seating. Of course sharing a picnic table with other Flip Happy fans is a great way to meet more friendly people but seats fill up quick. I guess what I'd like to stress the most is that when you go to a fun Austin icon like this, enjoy the day, take your time, savor the experience and the food.

Pros: cool atmosphere, excellent food, an Austin MUST!

Cons: no go if bad weather
