What Our Expert Scouts Say

Flip Happy Crepes
May 08, 2013

The wait for a crepe from Flip Happy is worth every ounce of sweet or savory goodness. Every item on the menu is worth a try, but I always get a kick of the ham and gruyere, the Moroccan chicken and the lemon curd.

One of the founding food trailers in Austin, Flip Happy Crepes rose to fame after appearing on Bobby Flay's "Throwdown," and testing the holding strength of paper-thin pancakes with the likes of goat cheese, roasted chicken, grilled mushrooms, and other savory marvels. Of course, the beauty of crepes is their flavor palate malleability: For dessert, like Flip Happy's cinnamon sugar crepe with toasted coconut, crushed almonds and cream cheese frosting. Sweetly sinful.

Love it!. Enjoyed a beautiful morning in Austin with yummy crepes from Flip Happy crepes. The wait is long, but the crepes were amazing. We had the lemon curd blueburry, peanutbutter chantelle cream, ended with scrambled egg crepe. All so good.

Wait too long to appreciate. After ordering, we have told that wait would be 20 minutes. After 1h00 we finally had the crepes. Too long for me to appreciate. Especially when I saw that people arriving after me getting their crepes before me!!!

If I have been told that the wait was 1hour, I would not have order them. And where is the trick to cut the line?

Pleasantly sized portions. My husband has been resisting trying this place, being afraid of encountering tiny food, so I went with a friend. The chicken pesto crepe (both light & dark meat) was the size of a med-large burrito & was delish. Friend's veggie crepe was also nicely sized & tasty.

Nutella & banana crepe ROCKED.

We were early, so our wait wasn't too bad. If you're in a hurry, just call in your order ahead of time.

A great place to eat, if you have time.. This little trailer serves up some fantastic crepes. In fact, they beat Bobby Flay of the Food Network in a " Crepe Throwdown," in which Flay challenges "the best of the best." Flip Happy Crepes certainly qualifies.

My wife and I went the other day for lunch, and I LOVED the chicken pesto crepe, while she adored the Roasted Chicken with goat cheese and carmelized onions.

The only drawback is that the wait is too long for the typical lunch break. With only a couple of crepe griddles, the staff can't meet the demand very quickly.

Nevertheless, it is WORTH the wait.

Amazing crepes, best I have had in the states. This is 5 stars for food but have to deduct one star for the fact cars park randomly in the lot, you sit in the open in mismatched rickety tv trays and lawn chairs and wait sometime sup to 30 minutes for your meal....but man is it worth it when you taste them. Whether it is savory or sweet you are going for you will not be let down with how good these are.

Not a good place for dates or children (especially mom's with strollers who are looking for a spot ro sit). I give up my chair but they'll loose a finger if they ask for a bite of my crepe! D-licious!

Happiest Crepe Trailer ever!. PROS:

-friendly service

-exciting and delicious food

-music was perfect too: i felt like I was in France when they played La Vie En Rose

-nutella crepes were amazing.

-it's worth ordering both brunch crepes and dessert crepes.

-outdoor homey feeling

CONS:

-there was a long wait (30-45 min. wait), but it was so worth it! :)

-the cashier spilled coffee on my friend :( be careful! luckily it wasn't too hot.

Street food for Francophiles and penny pinchers who love gourmet grub. Tucked away in the parking lot behind Floribunda Nursery, this crepe stand is housed in a silvery vintage trailer. It's easy to believe the slogan "Made From Scratch With Love" when cradling these foil-wrapped, delectably soft treats that ooze with anything from roasted chicken, caramelized onions and goat cheese to Nutella and bananas. Seating is limited to a few lawn chairs and tables, but the late-risers and workaday types who frequent know to grab a perch anywhere or get it to go.

High Marks
"Each crepe had different sauces, flavors, spices, and yet each one was phenomenal." (ellzebeth, Citysearch user)

"Better than crepes I've had at fancy French restaurants in Quebec, this is amazing food from a tiny kitchen in an airstream trailer! I had the mushroom gruyere crepe, and the blend of flavors was perfect, subtle and rich." (wbohrer, Citysearch user)

"Once I sank my teeth into the Three Cheese Crepe with Tomatoes and Carmelized Onions, I knew that the hour wait was worth it." (allenej, Citysearch user)

Low Marks

"Once the buzz got out about Flip Happy, the lines are simply too long & their space & staffing are inefficient and unable to deal with the volume." (txcleo, Citysearch user)

"...the lines are horrible and they go pretty slow because they have limited kitchen space." (conjunction3, Citysearch user)

"As quirky and cute the location is, these folks should really open up a full-scale crepery restaurant." (VowlesM, Citysearch user)

Wait when it's not so hot outside. Wasn't aware of the long wait. After a not so bad 10 minute wait to place order it was an hour until food was ready. By that time I was so irriated and uncomfortable by the heat I managed to take a few bites of my food and couldn't eat anymore. Crepe was flavorful but couldn't enjoy it after waiting so long in the mid day heat, but can't nessecarily wait until the evening when it cools down a bit...they are closed. Definately wait until the cooler months...I'm sure they are great.

Absolutely Incredible!. So this weekend we took a girls' trip to Austin. Saturday morning/afternoon was almost devoted to Flip Happy!! We wanted to try to the crepes so badly that we waited in line, in the blazing hot sun, for one full hour. As each minute passed, we kept asking each other, "is this really going to be worth it?" The four of us ordered different lunch crepes, and two of the dessert crepes. When our food was finally ready, another half hour or so, we couldn't wait to dig in. It looked and smelled fantastic. As we each bit into the crepes, we were amazed by how YUMMY they were!! Each one had different sauces, flavors, spices, and yet each one was phenomenal. It's hard to go somewhere and leave with everyone being exceptionally enthused about the experience, but Flip Happy did it for us. We will definitely be returning to Flip Happy whenever we visit Austin again.

MM YUMMY CREPES!!. I love the crepes that come out of here. This place is a good value for what you get! I absolutely loved the chicken, mushrooms, onions, and gruyere cheese crepe. Also the nutella&strawberries crepe is awesome. I am itching to go back asap to try other crepes but the wait can be ridiculous if you go at the wrong time. I would recommend trying to make it when they open if possible to avoid long wait times but if not, then order ahead on the phone.
