My first time to visit. After getting off the golf course I was pretty hungry and thirsty. Since I had to make a stop at fry's electronics I decided to stop in. I had a bubba burger and really enjoyed it. I ordinarily don't like hot peppers but they didn't pack too much heat for me. Actually made the burger taste pretty darn good. The fries were good too but I couldn't eat them all. I think the heat got to me being exposed to it for hours. After drinking a couple beers faster than normal I filled up really fast.
I was shocked to see the other reviews. Sounds nothing like the place I just stopped in. Maybe I got lucky and showed up on a good day. I have eaten at the best and the worst of a lot of restaurants and it's hit or miss no matter where you dine.
Don't waste time and $ here. – Wadded piece of yellow paper found in half eaten salad brought no apology from waiter and a smirk and suggestion that it does look like salad from the manager. No I didn't want another salad. When we looked at the bill found we were not charged for one.Other places would have someone actually speak the words. There are restaurants with excellent food and service in Austin. Why is this place still open? I'm sorry I hadn't read these reviews first. They really do not care. I'm off to use mouthwash once again.
Yes. Bad Service. – As all the other reviews indicate, the attitude here is awful. They know it, because there's no "feedback" button on their website, and they are, no doubt, tired of reading complaints from mere customers. They know it and they don't care. They don't care if your glass sits empty for 20 or 30 minutes. They don't care if you've got somewhere to go, and they have your credit card for 20 or 30 minutes. The only time I've gotten decent attention from the waitstaff at Opal's is when the giant Amazon lesbian pretended to flirt with me (male and twice her age.) I can't go back there, because if one more bipolar, angst-ridden
twig-boy rolls his eyes at me because I asked for a glass of water for my wife, I'd have to commit a felony.
worst service EVER!! – The service was the worst I've ever experienced. It took 30 minutes for someone to come over to take our order and it took another hour for them to bring the food. We talked to a manager but he didn't even manage to apologize for their poor service. His attitude was like "so, our service is bad, what do you want me to do about it?". They must've had one cook and 2 waiters and even that, the service would've been a lot better. I ordered a baha fish taco and it wasn't even warm when it came out. It will be my first and last visit to this restaurant!
I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Best restaurant best beer on tap and off. what a way to come home too. – There is no other place that I love coming home too. I travel, much of my days,yet I live in Austin, Tx. So where is the first place I go when I get home,Yea that's right Opal Divines,when I lived south I used to,Hang at the south congress spot or downtown, Now that I live Northside unfortatly I spend my dining desires and world wide beer scotch and not mention this place actually sells the best margaritas in town, I was told by our server, that all of our mixes are made fresh every day in house.this place makes there own margarita mix with fresh sqeezed lime juice and pure agave nectar,which our server brought out to us, and showed us that is really like honey, yet from the actual agave plant. It actually tastes like honey. I was astounded that this joint didn't use any of there mixes pre-made,then I found out about there sundried poblano and garlic infused titos vodka for the best fricken bloody mary in town.I gotta stop, all this talk about opal divines bar and grill is making me hungry, and Im headead there for a pint and some fish and chips, later.
Poor chefing !! – My husband and i discovered this other opal divine north of Mopac, when we bought a house. Last Saturday, was the second time we went there. My husband likes their beers because he is German and enjoys going to a place with lots on tap. That day was just disappointing. The waiter was very cool, but there seemed to be a communication break down between the waiter and the chef. The drinks were correct. But as far as the food, it was what we say in England "wishy washy". It seemed like the chef was asleep or just not with it. Every item were ordered on the menu was incorrect. The chef then came out, and was refusing to get my attention, by asking me to hold while he went over to look at sometthing else. We are a couple that travels this globe from bombay to Nairobi to Berlin. We have seen what good service is. It is such a shame that the food is absolutely appauling! To compete in the resturant business, this resturant needs to improve or the word will spread like fire. Austin is a growing city, and if you cannot get that concept then your business is in for a shock ! There are plenty of young people whao wanna have a good time, but when the food is so terrible. I might as well take my friends to the other resturants, where the food and beer go together. Normally, my husband and i would not complain, but when we see this happening it takes away the steam of visiting other opal divine's in Austin.THere are a few recommendations, have a standardized menu that is appealing to all. Get chefs who can cook, they don't have to be from here. There are lots of chefs in England who with a good pay will come and make good pub grub. Make use of your local cooking schools, which are producing more and more qualified chefs. Look and see what your competitors are doing, get some ideas. Adjust accordingly. In short, changes are needed to improve the quality of food and service to the public. We are willing to pay more if the food is good. We will also come again and bring friends.
Abhorrent service! – I have been a waiter, so I am a good tipper and let a lot of stuff slide. However, this place had perhaps the worst service I've ever experience in my entire life. It took 20 minutes and me getting up to speak with the host to even get a waitress to acknowledge our presence. The food came out quickly and was well prepared. They did have a lot of beers on tap, and it wasn't too crowded. However, all of this was completely overshadowed by the fact that the waitress completely ignored us. We sat with empty glasses for about half an hour, then we had to get up to ask the bartender for our check, just to be able to pay out. Very frustrating, I will not return.
Bad food, bad location, bad service == bad business. We tried it twice, you should avoid it! – I visited twice with a group of 3 friends for lunch. Both times, we got very poor service, bad food, and it just took forever to get in and out.
The first time, I tried the philly cheesesteak. It's featured on the menu, and looked good. What I got was nothing like what was in the menu. The cheese was runny, the bread soggy, and the meat was nonexistant! There was enough for about 1/3 of the bun, and it took me 30 minutes to get this junk.
The second time, I tried the divine quesadilla, which is also featured on the menu. A quesadilla by definition has cheese in it. This had NONE. It was like eating limp, warmed-over salad between two tortillas.
Both times, we got very bad service (and the place was only half-full!). Our drinks didn't stay filled, the server didn't seem to care, and barely spoke a word to us. It even took 15 minutes (and flagging someone down) on the first visit to even place our orders.
Stay away! For the money, go to North by Northwest on 360 instead! Its probably 50 cents more expensive for lunch, but 100x better food!
We've all agreed to never visit the place again, and I, personally, am waiting for it to close again. Its in a poor location, and there are many many higher quality restaurants. Try Sam's Boat, NXNW, Baby A's, Waterloo Ice House, or any of the other awesome Austin restaurants / bars / grills within a mile of this place.

Opal Divine, you let us down! – My wife and I went to Opal Divine's for the first (and last) time the other day. OK, I was expecting pub food, but this was BAD. The beer was cold and the atmosphere was fine but it went downhill when the food came! My wife ordered the Grilled Portobello sandwich. She said it tasted burnt, like it was dragged through the coals! I ordered Shrimp Tacos. It was supposed to be served with shredded cabbage but there were literally 8 tiny, tiny pieces of cabbage that would fit into a teaspoon (has the price of cabbage gone up lately?) Being used to the excellent Chuy's shrimp tacos, I asked the waitress for some more cabbage. The taco was barely warm when it was originally served. She took forever to bring the cabbage and my food was cold when she came back. We described the problems with our food and the waitress rudely asked "Well, what do you want me to do?" I told her to just bring our check. I figured that a re-do was not good for Opal or for us at this point.
She brought the check, threw it on the table and without missing a stride, said the food was comp'd as she zipped past the table.......no apology or even an indication of concern for us The Customer!
This is not the place to go for food. This is bar. So, Opal just call it Opal's Bar and throw away your menus, or hire real some cooks and some waitresses that can at least act like they care.
The worst part of this is that we live 1/2 mile away and really wanted a place to go on a regular basis.

p.s. There is a dog friendly patio section. Through the window by our table we were watching the customer who brought her 100lb Great Dane. There was a 2 year old girl that was running around. This was an accident waiting to happen. I love dogs and food but not at the same time. Besides, this dog was slobbering all over the deck! Come on people!
