best donuts anywhere

Glad to have Shipleys in Austin. This new location on Brodie Lane offers great donuts and kolaches , fast, cordial service. The nicest, cleanest Shipleys I've been in. The owner is a nice young man, eager to greet his customers and wants to accomodate everyone. A donut lovers must stop.

Not sure of this exact location persay, but tarnished the krispy kreme image before I even had my first KK donut. Totally different texture. Light, not greasy and overly sweet. These are good hot or room temp but are best hot. Unlike KK, the glaze won't get gross if allowed to sit at room temp then microwaved to perfection. Too bad these are only in the south, but everytime I go to Houston I make sure to visit a shipley's. Their kolaches are heavenly and their donuts are, of course, to die for. Good thing I'm in Houston right now, the nearest one is about a mile or two away from me versus the 15 miles this location is away from my austin residence.
Love it. LOVE IT. Go their as often as possible and find myself visiting my parents just because I miss shipley's. The nearest one to my dad is a mere mile or two away. They're like the McDonald's of Houston.
Shipley's>Krispy Kreme.
Unless you like the whole diabetic coma aspect.
They rely more on the substance, the pastry, rather than tons of glaze and taste good at any temperature.
Everyone try them, you don't know what you're missing out on.
- Pros: real donut, fast service, drive thru
- Cons: none

Average donuts. KC right across the street is way better. The kolache I got was undercooked. Not recommended.

I haven't had a good donut since moving to Austin (and yes, I've been to Krispy Kreme and I think theirs are way too sweet and have a funky aftertaste; and the famous Round Rock donuts - yuck)....until I went to Shipley's. Seriously the best I've ever had. They were so good that I created a CitySearch account just so I could write this review. Not too sweet, light and fluffy, just amazing. Every flavor I've tried is delicious, but the plain glazed are like heaven. Absolute perfection.
