I moved to Austin three years ago.
My luckiest find so far is Martin's vehicle inspections. He has never once tried to cheat me, over charge me, or play any sort of game. I have gone back half a dozen times for every thing I have needed since.
I had to get my wife's Acura inspected as soon as we got here to south Austin.
That down town Acura dealership, that one that sounds sort of like a type of silver tried to scam me with the classic scam dripping fluid on the steering casing and telling me it was both leaking and shot. They wanted me to spend almost $1500 to pass inspection.
I was really worried. I care more about my wife's safety then I do my own. I told Martin that if it was shot that was fine, but I wanted to know. He told me it was totally fine and safe. I drove the car myself for quite some time just to be sure. I had just moved in and didn't know Martin then. I could have saved myself the worry.
That was three years ago, and the steering is PERFECT.
Just today I thought I had busted my electrical system trying to jump my wife's battery. I have had places that you tell them you are worried about something and EVERY time they will tell you its busted.
Not Martin. He finds whats wrong, fixes it, explains what was wrong and gets your car back to you for a very reasonable price.
Finding a mechanic you trust is better than finding a gold mine. I trust Martin completely
2 days sooner and $50 less than he quoted, great service! Mom, my sister, my brother and I all go there for service on our vehicles.
borderline harassment in grocery store...12/9/11 – ok this guy it nuts, this is an update from my original review on 8/23/11 under sagacious11 (with 7 additional comments that i encourage you to read) an old friend of ours came by the house a little while back and said he happened to live near the owner and heard there had been a fallout and wanted to know what exactly happened. this person hadn't seen my father in a while so they spent some time catching up with each other and explaining what went on with the owner. The owner learned from this person that my father is in poor health. i'm not surprised, I figured he would hear about it...they live near each other. The owner saw me at HEB and caught my attention. He was on the phone but found it more important to get my attention and put the person on hold. so he said "Hey, i heard your father is sick" and i said yes...he is. at this point im expecting maybe for him to say he's sorry to hear that and patch things up. but no, he said "Well, bad things happen to bad people" I can't believe how hateful this guy is. he's got a screw loose and his anger is through the roof. it's the holidays and nearly christmas and this guy is basically telling me "im glad your dad has cardiovascular disease, he deserves it" this started all because I put my AC system together and came to him for just the evac/refill and not the whole job? this is nuts, let it go. quite frankly im tired of talking about you but the people need to know that you can be a nutcase, stalking me in the grocery store with hateful words. what's your motive? are you planning on me getting angry and doing something stupid so you can sue me? I see that game coming and whether you deserve it or not, I won't be caught up in it. The people need to know that you have anger issues and I find it 'curious' that these random good reviews pop up right after my post and the one before it...since they were both negative. don't waste your time, he's a loose cannon, go to 1626 inspections right around the corner at the end of manchaca by twin creeks rd. The guy is very nice and it's a much more relaxing environment to be in...he wont charge you anymore money than he has to and is very honest.
Great service and Great Prices – Have gotten work done at Martin's for five years now and they have always done a great job.
Many Years of Great Service – My family and friends have been going to Martin for many years. Kinda shocked to have read a couple of bad reviews(2 sides to every story). We have nothing but good things to say. Work is fairly priced and done in a timely manner. I took a minivan in for an inspection and he told me what it needed and what to do to have it ready...and didn't charge me for his time and advice. Just got it inspected. Pleasure doing business with the folks @ Martin's Vehicle Inspections ! Thanks again !!!
Sad to say... – first off, my father and I have been going to Martin for several years back when he had his old location and a few times since the new one on Regal Row. He's been good to us in the past and has always had great prices, he doesn't ask for much and he does good work. he's got a wealth of knowledge. Although it seems that since he's moved to his new location things haven't been going so well for him either personally or business wise. none the less it has been affecting his business, it seems he doesnt want the small jobs anymore, or the people who buy the parts themselves and go to him to get it installed, or customers who install the AC system themselves and ask to have him fill it with refrigerant. All he wants now are the full installation jobs from start to finish. money must be tight around there because he barked at us for trying to save money. who doesn't try to save money? i've never asked him for money off or EVER tried to make payments or cut corners. I simply did the work that i could do myself and had him do the rest that i couldn't. he's very sensitive about people "wanting everything for free" or "trying to save money" he recently refused to work on one of our vehicles because we're mechanics as well... we do what we can but there are just some things we cant do because we dont have the equipment....thats why we come to him. there was no just reason for him to be aggressive. I had just referred a friend over to Martin an hour before this incident had happened. I've always told people to go see him. Sad to say, i wont be returning and nor will i be referring anyone else. i'll also be letting everyone in the carclub know about the incident. what was a good customer-mechanic relationship has ended. I think an apology is due on his end, because i dont know WHAT he was thinking. if every mechanic got his dream job then EVERYONE WOULD BE A MECHANIC. i give him two stars instead of one because he used to have a good customer relationship basis.
I looked at your car 4 times and how much did I charge you,I charged you just that once.Sometimes people try to save money and end up paying more if they had let a professional handle the first time.Your father maybe a good carpenter and I am sure you were a good marine but both of you together are not one mechanic.I have diagnosing your cars for you, free for too long.Sorry but it really is your loss.
STAY FAR AWAY!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! – I dropped my car off at this establishment to get an estimate on some miner fixes, expecting that they would just take a look at it and sum up what the cost would be to repair. I give them a call back about 5 hours latter (they don't call you by the way, you have to call them) and it seems as though they have already started work on my vehicle without my consent or the signing of a work order. I head on down there and they tell me that they have to hold it until the next day to fix what should be a miner problem. I understand that they are busy and I don't have to go into work until latter the next day so I consent to it. I call them the next day and inform them that I must acquire the vehicle to take to work and that I do not have enough time for them to finish the job (you must understand that I did not consent to them servicing my vehicle under any legal work order form, nor did they provide me with any form of written legal documentation to do said work on my vehicle) so I arrive to collect my vehicle having no qualms about paying for the services and the owner proceeds to be quite rude to me in front of my wife. he then states that that he wants me out of his site and does not expect for me to pay for the service on my vehicle (which seems appropriate because I never actually consented to the work on my car in the first place) If all you plan on going to this place for is just a inspection, I'm sure you will have no problems. Just make sure that if you have anything (including an estimate) done on your vehicle, to make sure that you get it in hand writing, and don't upset the owner because he has some anger issues.
THESES GUYS ARE AWESOME! – It's really hard to find an honest, dependable shop to trust your car with, and this is definitely one of those shops. They came highly recommended from a good friend of mine that has been using Martin for years. Martin (owner) and Tim (mechanic) have both been extremely helpful in not only explaining what was wrong and why, but with getting the repairs done in a timely professional manner and just being really friendly and honest. I've found that they are very competitive with their prices and in my case, less expensive than anyone else I got a quote from. Bottom line is that my car will always be in good hands with them and I recommend them to friends, family, and everyone I know. They also do state inspections in 15 minutes or less! Two thumbs up!
