Excellent place, work, and people

by austicago

I rarely write reviews, but I was so impressed by Matt and Bumpers RX that I had to write.

I hit a piece of tire on the highway going 70mph (thanks, whoever left it there... ) and it trashed my front bumper pretty badly with the whole right side of it just hanging loose. I put off getting it fixed for a while because I didn't want to deal with paying for the repairs due to my high insurance deductible. But one day, I decided to go ahead and get at least a few estimates. I drove up and down Burnet and also 183 and pretty much stopped in at every "car repair" place I saw. Apparently, there is a difference in shops that say "auto repair" and "auto body repair." I understand that now, but it seemed like one of those same difference things at the time. Anyway, I ended up at 2 or 3 "auto repair" shops and they all referred me to Bumpers RX once they saw the type of damage I was looking to fix.

Brought the car over to Bumpers RX and I was greeted by Matt. He came out to look at my car and he took a few minutes to assess the damage, and then he said that he thought he could get it fixed for 369.00 even though the damage was a bit worse than what they usually see or do for that price. I was extremely skeptical - one place had just quoted me 1000.00 and here was Matt with his offer for 369. I asked him a lot of questions about it - not because I doubted his expertise, but because I wanted to be sure I wouldn't end up with a whole bunch of additional XYZ charges. I'm OK with having to pay X dollars for repairs because then I can prepare for it, but not OK when I'm surprised by the bill in the end.

But Matt reassured me, saying that if there were some hidden damage (but that he didn't think there were any), he would eat the cost if he needed to. If it were totally unsalvageable, then he would contact me and let me know. So, fine... I make an appointment to drop off my car the next week or so.

Fast forward to the day after I drop off my car, I go in and the bumper looks FANTASTIC! I couldn't tell that any damage had been done to it. I go in with my compliments, and Matt said that it was actually a brand new bumper, that it ended up being easier for them to buy the bumper (a genuine manufacturer's part) and do the install and paint it than it was to fix the original. I did suspect as much that my damage was a lot to overcome, but I really appreciate Matt's attempts to fix it and when he ended up just eating the costs of getting the new bumper. I was charged the 369.00 I was quoted, not the 369.00 plus the cost of the bumper.

I can't say enough about Bumpers RX and Matt. The other workers there were very polite, as well. I think this place is honest, takes pride in their work, and really tries to do the customer right.

The only "con" that I have, and it is NOT a big deal, but one I thought I'd put in anyway just to prove that I'm not some paid shill is that the insides of the car do get a bit dusty/dirty from their having to get inside. But it's not a big deal to brush or wipe off the dust and once you do, it's like new.

In conclusion - if you have the type of damage that they specialize in, which is the repair of plastics (I think), you should absolutely check this place out. If you treat them as you'd want to be treated, and your expectations are reasonable, you will not be disappointed.

Big disappointment!

by Carolyn W

Makes me wonder if this is the same place that gets rave reviews here! I'm not sure what was worse, the shoddy workmanship, the multitude of inconsistent excuses I was told, or the parting words I was given. I had scraped paint and a slight bulge on my rear bumper from a parking lot mishap. My car is a "pearl white" 2010 Prius. Matt told me it would be no problem and that just involved an extra step as part of a tri-coat process, and there was an small extra charge. No problem!

Here's the bizarre series of excuses I heard: (1) I called at 4:00 the same day as I left it, and was told it would be ready at 6:00; (2) I arrived at 5:40 and Matt told me it would be ready in 15 min. and that it was OK to return my rental car next door: (3) At 5:55 Matt told me it would be another hour; (4) Just minutes later, Matt told me it would be three more hours. He was almost incoherent with alleged anger at an employee that he was going to "have to fire," and his wife told me they would pay for another day's rental car. I asked if there were any problems with my car, and she assured me that it was fine. Enterprise opened up after closing at 6 and rerented me the same car. My mistake was in not listening to my gut feeling and not pulling my car out of that shop right then. At least I should have asked to see it.

The next morning, I called and left a message asking for a status update and explaining my concerns. No returned call. Early afternoon, I called again, and Matt said they were just finishing up the car and it would be ready whenever I arrived. I asked him to check it one more time to make sure it was perfect. He assured me it would be. I arrived around 4:45 to see my Prius parked in front. It was immediately obvious that the workmanship was awful. There were specks of dirt in the paint, the bulge was still there, there was a paint run, there was overspray on a rubber bumper guard AND the color obviously doesn't match. When I pointed out these glaring inadequacies, he seemed offended, then said he'd just give me the keys back and I could drive away. There was no warm and fuzzy customer service moment! And no, he wouldn't pay for the rental car, per yesterday's promise. I asked for something in writing saying I owed nothing, and he scribbled 'no charge' on the work order, and then, the KICKER, said to me, "FAIR (as he emphasized) would be if I walked right out and put the dent right back in, but I won't do that."

I expected to be totally pleased when I walked in that shop two days ago. I am so disappointed to have to post this negative review, but people should know.

Awesome Job!!!!

by SoClose

My car got in a fight with a UPS truck and my back bumber lost. Tore a whole clean through. Almost a foot long and 6 inches wide. I was quoted over $1900.00 at a body shop. Bumpers Rx quoted me $369.00 out the door.

My bumper looks brand new and Matt cleaned up a couple of things with touch up paint. Can't say enough good things about them. Check them out!

  • Pros: Excellent work. Very Freindly
  • Cons: Took a couple of extra days

Doesn't keep promises

by Disappointedoncemore

They did a good job on the bumper, but they had promised to fix a number of bumps and scuffs elsewhere. All they ended doing was adding a bit of touch up paint - geez, I could have done that. Please be open and honest about the work you are going to do.

  • Pros: Bumpers look OK
  • Cons: Rest of job was disappointing
