Fantastic. My wife and I love this.... the Michael Jackson is the best! The Burnet Road shop keeps the airstream styling in an indoor setting. Must be enjoyed to be believed.
Just like your Mom used to make, if she made dry cupcakes with Duncan Hines frosting. My husband and I had high hopes for this place, since it was in a cute Airstream trailer with a big cupcake on top. Unfortunately, the chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing that we tried wasn't very good. The cake was dry and flavorless, and the frosting is definitely NOT a real buttercream. I'd say the frosting is either made with shortening or it really is Duncan Hines. Either way, not good. Go to Sugar Mama's on S. 1st instead, they use real ingredients and I've never had a dry cake there.
Best cupcake I've ever had. Their cupcakes are wonderful. They are all delicious but I especially love the red velvet with cream cheese icing. They seem to sell out by the end of the night so I know others agree! Very friendly staff. Great for parties.
Super cute, super fun cupcake experience.
Little known secret -- their vegan cupcakes (made my vegan baker extraordinaire Celeste) are insanely good. Their regular cupcakes are good, not great. I'm not even a vegan and I get Celeste's all the time. And, no, i don't even know her so this is a purely objective review.
The place is just so damned much fun that who cares if it's not the best cupcake ever. The staff is the friendliest, foxiest, most fun crew around. The trailer is kitcsh and cute. The experience is great. it's clean adn cheerful and a lotta fun for $3 bucks. We go every Friday with our kids, with guests, with friends. It's just a fun Austin spot with a lot of charm. Check it out!
I can make better cupcakes with my eyes closed. Great marketing for a terrible tasting cupcake. It's cupcakes like these that give cupcakes a bad wrap! I had the chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. It was overly sugary and suffocated in what I swear tasted like duncan hines frosting. There was nothing special or "gourmet" about these cupcakes...It was like a cupcake you'd expect a child to make.... the cake itself was moist and more like a fudgy brownie than an airy cake...Overall it's a cool looking place, with a poorly executed idea. Looks like they put more thought into the marketing aspect than the actual ingredients!
nice trailer... bad cake.
of course everyone is giddy about a giant shiny airstream with a big cupcake on top.
"I think Im going to try something from there" I say to myself as I pull into a parking spot.
But to my hearts dismay it was the WORST cupcake Ive ever eaten and let me tell you, Ive eaten a lot of bad cupcakes in my life. The one from behind the dumpster at H.E.B. was better than this.
The cupcake was stale, flavorless, dry, and worst of all a giant sugar bomb. I love sugar, but this was like they were trying to cover up the bad cupcake with a tooth decaying mouth full of sugar.
Just like homemade!. The other reviewers must be crazy! These are great cupcakes! The cake tastes and has the texture real homemade cake has. Real homemade cake IS thicker than what you'd buy other places. And the icing is wonderful; you can taste the real butter and cream--definitely NO CRISCO here! Don't let the naysayers keep you from trying this place. Trust me: if you like real, homemade, just-like-Grandma-made cake, go to Hey Cupcake. These cupcakes are a bargain at $2 each.
Seriously?. This is what the hype has been about? The best thing about this place is the location and the cute airstream. Hubby and I finally stopped by last night, got in a long line, drool starting to gather in preparation. The we sat down on the curb and each took a big bite. The disappointment was palpable. I said, "That's it?" He said, "These taste like the cupcakes they served in my elementary school cafeteria...and that's never good." I'm no baker, but I've both made and had from scratch cupcakes leaps and bounds better than this, both traditional to jazzy. This was just so, well, nothing. Cake was nearly dry, practically flavorless -- frosting was so generic. And not "like mom made mmmm mmmm" generic...just, I dunno, a waste of calories (and money, at $2.50/ea).
Too heavy, nice concept though. I didn't particularly care for the cupcakes. The cupcake was more like a muffin (which is what another reviewer said) and I prefer the lighter, more cake- like cupcakes. The frosting wasn't that great either. It was very dense. My kids didn't even like it and that says alot. It is a good concept though. Maybe just not my type of cupcake.
Yuck. How can you make a bad cupcake? Well, these people mangage to! I fell for the hype and was sorely disappointed. The outer part of the cupcake had a crust more like a muffin than a cupcake. I tired chocolate with white icing and red velvet. Neither one was good so I don't get the popularity of this place. I wanted to be a believer!
