Roux Restaurant

Cajun Con-"fusion"- NOT JUST ANOTHER CAJUN RESTAURANT!

  • Top Quality Food & Drinks
  • Highest Quality Service
  • Lunch/Happy Hour/Dinner

Roux is a modern, New Orleans style restaurant & lounge that embraces traditional New Orleans style while catering to hip, young Austin clientelle. Roux combines a sexy & mysterious atmosphere, live music, superb service and high quality Louisiana fare with a contemporary/healthy spin... all leading to one thing-the complete dining experience. This is dining at its best... This is Roux.

Cajun dining & taste with a "fusion" twist. What does that really mean? Basically that diners have the chance to enjoy the rich flavors that Louisiana is famous for, while not having to feel guilty about it. Most of Roux's dishes have a signature flavor from Executive Chef, Ric Gonzalez, with an up to date, lightness that makes it a pleasure to enjoy.

Roux is open at its convenient downtown location for lunch, happy hour and dinner & is also available for booking parties & special events.

Editorial Review for Roux Restaurant – by Andrea Loera

In Short
Located beneath the music-filled Parish, the exposed brick walls and Louisiana-style tin ceiling make this Cajun restaurant suitable for both hungry tourists and downtown business functions. Large windows supply street-level people-watching and the spacious front bar makes room for the happy hour crowd. The menu features upscale versions of traditional Cajun fare with a modern twist including blue crab cakes, seafood bisque served with jalapeno cornbread, peppercorn-crusted ribeye, jambalaya and etouffee, plus fast and affordable lunch options. Kids menu available.

We visited this restaurant while in town for business. Since we are from Louisiana, we were looking forward to a taste of "home". I will say the hostess was very polite and prompt. However, that's where the good news ends. We were there for an early dinner about 6PM. Our waitress' entire vocabulary consisted of one word....."Cool". I had the etouffee and my husband had the fried catfish. The roux was much too thick. While a thin roux is awful too, this roux just wasn't good. The fried catfish had a good batter, but the fish itself was left completely unseasoned and tasteless. It was a little too early in the evening to sample the music, but hopefully it is better. But i won't go back to find out!

I discover Roux while surfing Citysearch for an after work spot with my co-workers. We picked a fun spot with a good crowd that serves quality Cajun appy's and fun cocktails. We all ordered Huricanes which seemed to be the daily special and sampled the fried tomatoes, fried pickles, oysters and the small sliders/burgers. Everything met or beat expectations as a few of the dishes were new to me. Good music was being played and the evening was fun. Roux will now be in my afterwork rotation and a must for dinner.
