Editorial Review for Beleza – by Elisabeth Bergman
The Scene
Riccardo Ullio of Italian hotspots Fritti and Sotto Sotto has expanded Atlanta's culinary universe with his new Midtown venture. Housed in a new loft building, the retro-modern interior pays homage to Brazilian designer Oscar Niemeyer. The 60-seat space features a long marble bar with white-leather stools, but the most striking design element is the 150-square-foot wall of live plants. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable, offering assured meal and cocktail suggestions to a well-dressed crowd.
The Food
Chef Michelle McKenzie's menu of small plates is spa cuisine with a gourmet sensibility: smoky, thyme-inflected artichokes; pureed squash soup topped with apple; an ever-changing harvest salad with heirloom beans and a zippy citrus-dijon vinaigrette. Standouts include a moist sous vide wild salmon with Beluga lentils; and red quinoa, a South American grain, dotted with cubes of squash and pistachio. Nutty and hearty like a rice salad, it proves that food can be good for you and taste good, too.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkInspired by Brazilian juice bars, the cocktails, made with fresh juices such as kiwi and acerola, almost steal the show. The Soursop & Elderflower Collins--soursop juice, Nikolaihof elderflower syrup, fresh citrus juice, mineral water and Plymouth Gin--is an antioxidant-packed delight.
Know Before You GoYou won't find red meat or chicken on the menu, but vegans and vegetarians have plenty of options.
The ExtrasThe raw desserts contain no dairy, eggs, soy, or sugarcane derivatives, but one bite of the rich chocolate tart and you won't care how it's made.

If you want a cocktail, go here. It has a great bar with a very knowledgeable mixologist. But if you want to eat...ugh! First of all, our server was rather rude and not really interested in doing her job. The tables are on top of each other. It's not really Brazilian food. While the ingredients were fresh, the place felt like it was doing something different than the way the place was advertised. Seriously, the cocktails/tapas combo is nice, but this place needs to stop pretending it's a restaurant, open itself up, and use small tables to increase space and intimacy instead of the dumb wall in the back corner and the giant tables in the front of the house.s

The drinks at Beleza are truly amazing. The "mixologist" is definitely a master at his work. I had no idea that alcohol could actually taste good and still be able to be potent. The food has a little less substance than I hoped for, but I guess it helped with the potency of the drinks. I would definitely go back... And dont forget to tip your valets!
