Austin >Urban Groove Salon
Urban Groove, nice salon in sw Austin.
I recently moved to SW Austin, quite a change from living near downtown...It was nice to come upon this salon on a friend's recommendation. Since my relocation to the burbs, I have been in the salon a few times and every time I was greeted by great professionals. The stylists are well trained, the salon is clean and modern-not what you would expect in it's location in the shopping center at Arbor Trails. The prices are reasonable for a high end salon and I was very impressed that someone finally carries Kerastase products-a hard, but great find! I left my stylist at another salon, someone I went to for years and she moved. I was leary about finding a new stylist, as I am particular about my color.
I booked with Scott, my friend's stylist, and he made me feel at ease and did a terrific job. I left with a great new cut I can style easily and really makes this forty-something mom look and feel more attractive! He even touched up my makeup before walking me to the door and thanking me for the opportunity to do my hair.
Cool Place but will leave you HOT. Trendy, upscale environment, talented staff, so what's the problem? I have been having mine and my daughter's hair cut, colored, & styled by Kara for almost a year now. She is amazingly talented. In fact I can easily say that last fall I received the first haircut in my life that I could say, "that is perfect". With that said, the ability of the staff is not the problem. Three of our appointments have been during the Texas HEAT. My last appointment was on a day that it was 101 degrees outside. The moment I walked in it was very hot in the salon and before I was in the chair I was sweating miserably. No, I'm not menopausal, so no hot flashes here, yet. I aksed a staff member if the air conditioning was broken and if not, could they adjust it, another client agreed with me that it was too hot. The staff member informed us that they could not because there was a note next to the thermostat that said, "don't touch this if you want to keep your job". That is so wrong on so many levels, first of all you don't speak or write to your employess that way. When I asked the rest of the salon clients and staff, out loud, one client said she heard the owner tell another client she should wear something different or lighter weight, questioning "what she had on under there". I am all for conserving energy, but when I'm paying $75+ for a haircut, I expect to be comfortable. I'll go back because the talent of the stylist but I hope the owner will consider her clients and stylists as valuable, treat them with a little more respect and find somewhere else to cut corners other than the electric bill.
Good Vibe, Wonderful Stylists, Uneven Results. Like this salon, it is welcoming and professional looking, but try as I might, I don't love it. Each time I've felt rushed and not really listened to, so the results have ranged from terrific to just so-so. The focus seems to be on presenting current styles, not tailor-made ones. I don't need one more salon staff person (in any salon) to tell me I look wonderful after a service, when I don't. What I, and most people I know, need is a salon that really evaluates me as an individual and gives me a style that makes me look as good as I possibly can for the life I lead not only when I leave the salon but more importantly when I do my own hair. Monica has done a stellar job in creating a wonderful environment and gathering a creative staff for excellence in hair and spa services but the follow-through isn't there.
RE : Posted by jujubeelee- Over priced and bad service..
I am writing back in defense to the negative posting of urban groove salon.
I would like to say that I am very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience and if you gave it a second chance I am sure that you would enjoy it. I have never had a bad experience at this salon and have been going there since it opened. The complementary make up comes with your hair service and from my experiences if you were getting makeup applied you would of been sitting in the chair infront of the make up that is away from the rest of the salon wich should of told you even if no one had mentioned it .
Also I would like to state that if you are going to write a negative review I would hope that you would at least get the facts correct. Melinda is a fantastic Nail girl and is not the owner of that salon or a hairdresser. Also that I looked at your profile and it seems that you are unsatisfied with many places, maybe the problem is not in these AUSTIN businesses. Maybe the negative evaluations you are doing should be aimed at what you are truley unhappy with.
wow - such a strong reaction...are you sure you're not the owner, an employee or somehow affiliated with the salon? after all, you don't have a single review listed under your profile. =P
i have given great reviews to deserving businesses - fyr, capelli salon and keith kristofer - only citysearch knows why they're not listed under my profile. ;-)
Always aiming to please.. I would just like to thank Vanessa for your review of our salon, you commented on a few different technicians; and it was very sweet and much appriciated by us all. We are so happy that you enjoyed all of your services at our salon even after your first haircut wasnt exactly what you wanted, that really says alot. I am so happy that you ended up with the results you wanted in the end. It will be nice to see you in our salon again.
Amazing Customer Service!.
I've had my hair cut by a girl at Urban Groove a few times, and always liked the result. The last time, however, I got home and realized it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I called to speak with her about getting it cleaned up a little bit, but she was out of town. When I told the receptionist about my situation, she was very understanding and scheduled me for a re-do with Monica. When I got to the salon, everyone made me totally comfortable about coming in. Monica really listened to my concerns, and I ended up with an amazing haircut! The way Urban Groove handled my situation speaks volumes about how much they value their clients. I would definitely recommend Urban Groove. I also love how Haley touched up my makeup before I left...what a nice touch!
Also, I want to mention that I got a spa manicure from Melinda. She was really meticulous, and did a fantastic job. My manicure lasted over a full week without even so much as the smallest chip! Definitely the best manicure I have ever gotten.
