To my knowledge, Sagra is the only locally-owned Italian restaurant in town with dedicated vegan and vegetarian menus. But where oh where is the cheese-covered pizza?! Ah, there it is -- with eight pizza varieties as a matter of fact, including a classic Margherita and an eat-when-not-on-a-date Aglio (smothered in roasted garlic). Sagra's clever solution to pizza's most beloved ingredient? The surprisingly melty, mouth-coating pistachio cheese.
declining fast. I have now been to Sagra 4 times in the past year for lunch. Its near-campus but not too-near location is ideal. But I have been increasingly disappointed with the food. The pasta is always overcooked and tastes like leftovers. It is a far better place for drinks and appetizers than for a meal. As a native New Yorker and Italian girl from the neighborhood, I tell you to PASS on this place unless they get a new chef and revamp everything. I waited an hour for my food yesterday in a fairly empty restaurant, and all 4 of us at the table were less than thrilled with the meal. The oily vegetable soup was a real low.
Nice place for lunch. I have been there twice for lunch. Both the times I really enjoyed. So far I had pesto sandwich and Cesar salad. Tasty and fresh...will go again.
First time-Very good!. Very nice dining experience-I won't go into tons of details, but I must comment on the fact that the food was prompt and tasty. The staff was very helpful and we would go back again. Thanks for a great evening!
We had been wanting to try this place for a long time and had decided to order on dine on demand. We ordered Casarecci alla Arrabiata, Wild Boar Osso Bucco, and cheese cake for dessert. It was awful.
The osso bucco was totally tasteless and was certainly not seasoned at all. Definitely not worth the $30. The pasta dish tasted like spaghetti-o's with olives and beef jerky-like salami. Gross. The noodles in the pasta were over-cooked and mushy as well. I could not even finish mine and moved on to the cheese cake...because, hey, you can't possibly mess that up, right? Wrong. That was also not good as I was not able to eat that either due to the awful consistency and the disgusting balsamic vinegar topping (which was really just vinegar out of a bottle).
I cannot believe how disgusting this food was. Not even mediocre. For the price we paid for this food, it should have been at least tolerable. I actually read the reviews from this site convinced it would be good, and was let down. I have no idea what happened here, but our experience does not even deserve the one star that we have to choose to make this review.
I never write reviews about anything really, but I was so disappointed at the price we paid for such horrible food, that I felt compelled to inform people of our terrible experience.
I am very sorry about your terrible delivery experience! Our food is normally considered excellent!! Not only can you believe the reviews on this site but we were given a 3 star review by the Statesman for our excellent food. I am not familiar with spaghetti -os but your pasta sounds very overcooked and I will speak to dine one demand about delivery times. We really would like for you to give us another chance and would never expect you to pay for something you didnt like.
Sagra is SO good!.
My family and I have been to Sagra many times. We love all of their pizzas and my personal favorite is the Sagra pizza. They also have great salads...my personal favorite is the Arugula salad with their homemade dressing, gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and pears! Their pasta is great and I loved the Risotto dish we had. My husband loves their lasagna and I am a fan of the Tiramisu!
We have always received excellent service. My husband and I have hosted work gatherings and happy hours with friends and everyone has raved about the food. It is great for a family dinner, for a group celebration or a romantic evening. I could easily eat there once a week
good food, good price.
have walked past this restaurant at least twice a day for the last year and a half. And I've probably thought to myself, "you should try that place" almost as many times.
Last weekend I finally did, and I couldn't have been more impressed. Like others before me have stated, the service was impeccable, if not a smidge too eager. We had planned on sharing a tomato & mozzarella appetizer and having lasagne and one of their individual pizzas for dinner, but after hearing that night's specials we quickly changed our minds.
We started with the eggplant rollatini, which is easily the best I've ever had. I hope they at least consider adding this to the regular menu, or heavily rotate it into the specials, because this alone is worth coming out for.
For my entree I had the ravioli, also a special that night, and that was buttery, fresh, creamy...everything you'd want and expect in the dish. My boyfriend had the mushroom pizza which was crispy and cooked to perfection; far better than Vespaios in my opinion.
Dessert was the flourless chocolate cake with mixed berry sorbet; again, absolute perfection. Next time I want to try their cheesecake or molten chocolate cake!
The best part though was the price. Two of us had appetizers, entrees, beers and split dessert for the low, low cost of $65, including tip. For a dining experience this nice, that's mere pennies, my friends.
good food and service.
I was skeptical selecting a restaurant over the internet, but was pleasantly pleased with the results. Based on the reviews, location, prices, and menu I chose Sagra. Weekends in Austin can be a crowd frenzie and I was nervous that the restraunt experience would not measure up. Not only did it measure up, it exceded my expectations. We were warmly greeted and seated promtly to a lovely table for four. Our wait staff were very helpful, attentive, and unobtrusive. They were readily present, attending to our immediate needs. You hardly knew they were there. Not once did we feel the need to request someting, they seemed to know what we wanted or needed (even before we did), there was no having to ask for service here. What more could you want? Our waiter was excellent. We wanted a nice meal at a reasonable price and he senced that. He was very warm and friendly, he made you feel as though you were invited into his own home for dinner. He assissted us with wine selections, and menu choices and he was dead on with his recommendations.
Being a wine lover I was pleased with the extensively wonderful and very tempting wine list, but we chose a reasonable price selection and it was fine for our dinning purpose. Each of us ordered one of the pasta dishes. The pasta was light, just the right size proportion, served piping hot, and cooked to perfection. We all sampled each others and each was more delicious than the next.
I would definately go back without question! No worries here, good food, good people, good atmosphere, clean, efficient service....a great dining experience. Great job to the staff and chefs at Sagra.
The only FYI I have is that the menu on their web site is not exactly the same as in the restaurant, but it was very similar (food/prices) and all good just the same
great night out.
I used to work in the area & have eaten here numerous times. I enjoy taking friends here every chance I get because I know they will enjoy the experience. During the cooler months, there is outdoor seating which is great for people watching on San ANtonio St. The inside decor reminds one of a remote restaurant tucked away in a small town in Italy - very warm & cozy.
I had 2 friends visiting from Michigan last night & I decided to take them to Sagra. There are numerous restaurants to choose from in Austin, yet there was a short wait before we were seated because the place was full. It's always a good sign when people are willing to wait instead of going to another restaurant.
Since the staff remembered me because I've eaten there so many times, I was greeted with a big smile & a handshake. The bread & water were brought to the table immediately after we were seated & our drink orders were taken. I had the linguini pescatore [which I've had many times before] & a caesar salad. One of my friends had a caesar salad & the eggplant parmigiana as an entree. My other friend had the stuffed peppers as an appetizer & the chicken envoltini? as an entree. The seafood is always fresh & the sauces taste like homemade. The bread is constantly refilled, which helps clear the remaining sauce from the plate [I come form a long line of sauce dunkers...LOL]. After the meal, we had samboca's as an after dinner cordial. I had a cappucino & my friends had coffee to complete the meal.
I'm Italian descent & grew up eating Italian food. Although they would hate to hear it, this cooking rivals the meals preared by my mom & grandmother. The menu is wide & varied. I personally recommend the linguini pescatore, parmigiana, & the chicken. There is an ample wine list & a full bar to compliment this dining experience.
great for groups. This is the FIRST review I have given on a restaurant but had to make note of my experience at Sagra! This was an example of amazing service and care. I made last minute reservations at Sagra tonight (a Wednesday) for a group of friends before going to see a 7pm show nearby at the Imax. A friend from out of town had done some research on local restaurants ans Sagras website, menu and online reviews looked good so this was the spot we settled on. We had 5:15 reservations for 10 - I can?t recall the last time I ate before 7pm (!!) ? and I felt that Sagra would offer food that would satisfy most palettes. The atmosphere looked cozy and not too formal so if our group couldn?t stay and linger, it would be just fine. Half of the group was late by 10-20 minutes and by the time we had all arrived, we realized our group had suddenly grown to 15. I immediately became worried as 15 people was such a large group and the chances of getting out of the restaurant in the 45 minutes (the restaurant was starting to fill up) in order to get to the show was a major feat!? We politely mentioned to our waiter, Mauricio (!) that we were in a rush to see a show at 7 and from there, he took charge, ordered all of our appetizers, and entrees and while we waited, refilled our drink orders. The staff was cool and collected and we even joked about how it could be ?hell?s kitchen? in the back trying to put together such a big order in such a short amount of time. YET ? the food amazingly all arrived in a very timely manner and all of the dishes were great! They even passed around a large dish of biscotti as we paid the bill! We were just too pleased and appreciative of all the effort that the restaurant chefs and waiters put in to give us a great meal in the short time we had ? this normally would have been a 2+ hour dinner! A special thank you again to Mauricio and company ? it was a delicious meal and we were all in our seats just before the curtains went up!
Make a pilgimage even though time I'm from the Big Apple.
The crust is always perfect, and the toppings are of the highest quality. The fresh basil lifts the whole flavour experience. Not expensive either!
