Prejudice, lack of customer service, no respect. I am the CEO of an up and coming magazine and entertainment firm and decided to have my 24th birthday party at Qua due to its atmosphere; the shark tank, the waterfalls, and the elegant atmosphere that it ensues. As time came closer for the party, I spoke with the event planner and he was excited to have my business and the fact that I was bringing a minimum of 30 people with me due to my growing popularity. A young lady at the club also contacted me asking was there anything that I would need to make my party go over smoothly. Customer service was great up to this point. After I got to the club I mingled with the few people that did show up and was called outside by one of my friends stating that he could not get into the club. I politely went to the doorman and asked what the problem was and he stated that dress code prohibited polo boots in the club. I then proceeded to turn around and look to the floor where I saw plenty of Caucasian males entering the club in tennis shoes and vans. So I instructed my friend to go back to his car and change into his tennis shoes. After five minutes I was called back to the door and was told that he was still not allowed to enter the club because dress code prohibited tennis shoes. I politely asked him why he was letting people in with run down vans and tennis shoes but not my friend and he rudely responded with, “I believe they are hiring upstairs, if you wish to work here then feel free to fill one out.” I informed him that the attitude at this point was not necessary and I just asked him a simple question. Frustrated at this point, I went inside the club to find the manager. Once I found Jarred the manager, I quickly asked him to come to the door to let my friend in due to the fact that it is my birthday, I am a paying customer, and the fact that I brought people to his club; many of whom have never stepped foot in the club before. To my surprise he held his hands up and stated that “It is the doorman’s job and he has no control over it.” At this point I am livid, not only as a manager did you not come to see what the issue is at your own door, but you gave no compassion to the please of distressed customer on her birthday. I then exited the club and informed my friends that there was nothing I could do and I am sorry for the inconvenience. As we exchanged our goodbyes, I then proceeded back into the club and was stopped by the doorman, “where do you think you’re going,” he stated. I looked at him perplexed, I stated that I was going back inside to enjoy my party. He replied with “No you’re not, it is at my discretion and you cannot come in. Enjoy your evening.” I asked to speak to the manager once again and he rudely declined and asked me to leave. I proceeded to the exit and asked the man working there if I could speak to the manager and he let me in. Half was through the front section of the club I feel two hands grab me roughly from behind in an attempt to pick me up. I turned around and instructed the exit doorman to get his hands off of me before I call the police. He stated that the doorman said that I was not allowed in and that I had to leave. I politely stated that I would leave as long as he removed his hands from me. As he did, I began to walk out of the club; not without texting and calling as many patrons as I could that came to the club for me to leave as well. Bottom line is that Qua bottle lounge is prejudice, lacks customer service, management is highly rude, and no respect is given to those who bring patrons to their club. I could have had my birthday at any club or venue in Austin and they failed to hold that into consideration as they roughly tried to handle the situation. They will never receive my business again.--Chayla Cooper
Stereotype. The first time I went, I had a great time. I went with a friend of mine who is tall, blonde, blue eyes, etc.... . The 2nd time, I went with a Hispanic friend and they wouldn't let us in because they claimed that you needed a reservation. 10 minutes prior to that, my blonde friend had walked right in, no questions asked. The manager told the blonde girl that front door guys decide who comes in and who doesn't. I was very shocked and it ruined my birthday night. I had planned on meeting up with friends there and celebrating my birthday. I've never had this problem in my life. I guess racism is still a problem. Last night I went with a co worker who is Moroccan and again they wouldn't let us in, but they did let all the other people in who were right in front of us and they weren't asked whether they had a reservation or not. I will never go again. They lost a great customer. My husband and I usually spend a good $200+ when we out because we tend to buy lots of drinks for everyone to have a good time.
WRONG!!!!! DON'T GO HERE.
When I heard they were putting sharks in the floor of a night club... I was mad. I went by there and they told me no one stands on the glass but I have seen people... It is cruel to put anything (animal) in a night club. They claim they have not lost a shark but I know of one and that's one toooo many. Sharks are being over hunted and thier populations are on the decline. We must protect them not show them off in a club.
I didn't want to rate this but you had too, I would give them a -five star
Please next time you go there. Dress bad. Then film them kicking you out. This is not Austin. This is The Sunset Strip. Get out of Austin Qua!
Please go to PETA's website to report animal cruelty.
They are exposing sharks to loud music, bright lights, and drunken idiots.
If you want to spend your money here, by all means you have every right. If you want to have fun, then don't go here. This bar was filled with horny old men sporting a little cash in their pocket, trying to find tonight's host of young girls, including most of the staff as well. Dou$he bag central. There was just a big un-exciting vibe in the place. You're more than likely to have a better time at the gay bars next door. Keep Austin Weird!
terrible service, extremely rude management!. Iwould never give money to this establishment again! My friends and i had a really bad experiemce with rude bartenders and pathetic drinks.... i have never met a bigger loser than the manager of this place. Definitely go somewhere else for a good time in Austin...
If I Could Give It a Negative Star, I Would. I merely repeat what others have stated. Both of my attempts to enter - denied. First due to open toed shoes. Second on a Saturday night - I was dressed and was told there was a private party, while watching others go in, not being asked to show and reflect proof of knowing anything about a private party. It is not normal for a club to have private parties for the whole club on a Friday night. Business wise does not make sense, as to all the money they would be losing. Will NEVER attempt to enter again!!! DISCRIMINATION IS NOT AUSTIN BEHAVIOR.
Overpriced Drinks and Horrible Customer Service. My husband and I went to Qua recently and after a few hours of drinking we received our bill and found that we had been charged for more drinks than we ordered. This is the second time this has happened to us at Qua the first time the waitress took off nearly half our bill and was much more accomodating than this second experience. Not only were we charged for drinks we did not order but the drinks were over priced and watered down; we were charged for "tall glass drinks" that we never asked for, and the tip was already included..and way more than we would have left considering the attitude of the waitress. We tried to speak with the manager and he became argumentative when we discussed the matter with him. He then directed us to our waitress who we argued with us for about 1/2 hour before she agreed to take off one drink. I would not recommend this place and I see after reading some reviews that others have had similar experiences.
horrible service. Not to mention that they're in the completely wrong market for trying to be high end it's how inconsistent they are in enforcing everything is what makes a lot of people angry. Some people aren't allowed in with flip flops on, some aren't allowed in with jeans on, and on the other hand some are. If you buy a bottle marked up several hundred percent of what they're worth then you're treated differently. They don't care about reservations, they don't care about customer service. I know this because I had a reservation and it didn't matter. I had true religions on but they're jeans so I guess it wasn't good enough. But some random guy in flip flops AND jeans got in because well I guess he was better than me. Thanks but no thanks. Terrible customer service. The place is more hype than it delivers.
tries to be high end but end up just being lame!. This place is lame and pretentious for no apparent reason. I understand if you want to maintain certain standards or code of operation because you're wanting to maintain a particular client base. But they're so absolutely inconsistent with all their rules on who gets in or not that it make a lot of people angry. I think that every single one of my friends hate this place.
DISCRIMINATING & RUDE. First of all, this was my anniversary weekend as well as my b'day and my brother(who lives in Austin) told me about this place and wanted us to go there to celebrate and said it was a good place to take nice pictures. Well once we get to the entrance, the guys working the door(on Sept. 18, 2009) immediately tells my husband that he couldn't come in because he had on sneakers but at the same time we seen a guy leaving out who also had on sneakers(Chuck Taylor's) to be exact. So we asked why was that guy allowed to enter but not my husband. The guy stated that the other guy bought a bottle. Well we were never asked did we have reservations or anything to begin with before being turned away. So while we're standing there arguing with one of the guys at the door, the other guy let a dude go in who had on flip flops......WTF.....but this place SUPPOSEDLY has a business attire dress code. So after we point that out to them, the guy tells my husband that his pants were baggy in which they were not. My husband is 5'4" and his pants were a little bulgy around the ankle but he had on a belt and button down shirt with a collar that was tucked in. So that's why I say these people were DISCRIMINATING and RUDEand denied us access due to their own personal reasons, not the club requirements. We were also denied when requested to see the manager and were treated very rudely. I ADVISE EVERYONE NOT TO GO NEAR THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE TRASH ON THE STREET. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!!!!
