In Short
This Dallas-based chain housed in the high-end Domain feels more distinguished with teak furniture, bamboo accents and dramatic lighting than a standard cookie-cutter replica. With a menu focusing on regional backyard cuisine, Chef Kent Rathbun tantalizes patrons with original takes on classic comfort foods, from Maytag blue cheese potato chips and rotisserie roasted prime rib to signature proscuitto-wrapped shrimp and grits. A spacious outdoor terrace surrounded by live oaks creates a relaxing alfresco dining experience.

Last night, Monday, 8 of us dined at Jaspers. We enjoyed the Happy Hour drink specials in the bar and then went into the beautifully appointed, serene dining room. Our server was Patrick and his years of experience were evident as he walked us thru the menu and specials. We sampled a few apps - the calamari, blue cheese chips and shrimp pizza. The chips were crisp and warm; the pizza crisp and flavorful with several - not lots - of nice size shrimp and while I did not try the calamari; however, it disappeared. Several ordered salad which were huge and either an entree size or sharable. The tomato and asparagus salad was enough for 4 and with truly fresh ingredients. Jaspers asparagus is hickory grilled and cooked perfect. For main courses there were orders for salmon, the ruby trout special, rib eye, baby back ribs, and sea bass. I had the salmon and asked for it cooked medium. It was perfectly prepared along with the asparagus and polenta which came with it. Everyone had the same comments on their dishes - fresh ingredients perfectly prepared with wonderful flavors. My friend who devoured the ribs said her favorite were the whipped potatoes along side it. She had wanted a substitution but was so glad she followed Patrick's recommendation as they were a true standout. Something else in common was all entrees were so large most everyone carried about half home, making Jaspers not only a great experience but fine dining at reasonable prices. Being a Monday night, and after reading other reviews, I was a bit hesitant to go, but am so glad I did. All experiences are different, but perhaps going during week and getting Patrick is the secret. All of us would go back and perhaps next time would sit outside to enjoy their wonderful patio.
Pros: Great food and service
Cons: None on the night we were there

I've had dinner at Jaspers on four seperate occasions. The first three were excellent, I had the award winning baby back ribs twice and they were fantastic, and I had the prime rib twice. The first time the prime rib was very good, so much so that on my fourth visit which was last Saturday evening 4/19/08. The prime rib at $41 for 16 oz. was auful, it was tough and tastless as were the other meals of my party of four. The Salmon was tastless, the sea bass was tastless. The evening, food wise was a disaster. Actually, I don't think the prime rib was prime rib at all. It was some cheap cut of meat you can get in the supermarket. Gone for good.
Pros: Good waitstaff
Cons: In-consistent food
