Editorial Review for Ristorante Cavour – by Andrea Loera
In Short
In keeping with the European glamour of the Granduca, the hotel's first signature restaurant promises guests a rarefied dining experience courtesy of Executive Chef David Denis (owner and chef of Houston's Le Mistral). Expect an ever-changing menu of richly flavored Northern Italian cuisine with a Provencal twist to complement the Tuscan-themed décor and romantic candlelit space. Menu standards include a traditional osso buco, creamy risotto dishes, seafood and fresh-made pasta.

At 7:30 reservation, unmaned cars with motors motors running at the front door. Had to wait for a bellhop to arrive then and same when trying to leave. IE: No valet parking. Food: One bottle of good wine The bill for two...$300+ Some items great, others not so great.

I was invited to Cavour for a lunch meeting last week and was pleasantly surprised! I had the mixed green salad, gnocchi and tiramisu. The salad was the perfect size and the dressing was nice & subtle. The gnocchi was, honestly, the best I've ever had. I am not a big fan of potatoes, but I tried it anyway. It was nice and small, unlike most others, and the tomato sauce was just right. The tiramisu was delectable & so was the truffle it came with. Even the cappuccino was perfectly brewed. The service was exceptional, the prices were fair and it was quiet enough to have a good conversation. They also had several options for a vegetarian, like myself, so I actually got a choice in what I ate, which is a rarity-especially at finer establishments. The atmosphere was perfect for a quiet afternoon, I sat next to the window with a view of bustling Uptown Park, but couldn't hear a single car. Even better, the parking is free and available, unlike other area restaurants. I dine in the Galleria area often (2/week) & usually think the restaurants, though though they are some of the best in Houston, have something to be desired. I have no complaints about Cavour and am anxious to go back! I will certainly try Chef Denis' other restaurant now too!
Pros: Everything: food, service, ambience, parking, availability
Cons: none
